2014 Winter Olympic Preparations Update

The vacation town of Sochi, in Russia, is located along the Black Sea with the magnificent Caucasus Mountains as the back drop. Usually the destination of choice of many holiday makers, Russia hopes to transform this spectacular coastal town into a breathtaking Olympic venue on schedule. The 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics is set to take place from the 7th of February to the 23rd of February 2014, with the Paralympic Winter Games following from the 7th of March to the 16th of March 2014.

For the region of Sochi, hosting the Winter Olympic Games will not only open the doors to future international events for the country, but also positively impact the development of Sochi and its surrounding areas. The plans for the redevelopment and the construction of new buildings and facilities will provide guests and athletes with superb accommodation and conveniences, and establish an infrastructure to provide future skiers and vacationers with fantastic winter sport facilities, even after the Winter Olympic Games have come and gone.

In statements recently released, the Presidium Session of the Presidential Council for Physical Culture, Sports and Preparation of the Olympic Winter Games, assured the world that the preparations for Sochi 2014 were on track and that every possible measure was being taken for it to remain on schedule. Construction timelines have been finalized and the designs of the various venues for this event are nearing completion. The envisioned railway and road, located at Adler-Krasnaya Polyana are almost complete and nineteen of the Olympic venues construction projects are already underway. In total, the Olympic preparations add up to no less than seven thousand different projects that include ensuring that accommodation and transportation needs are met and that the developments stay true to the commitment made by the committee to meet ecological management standards through alternative energy sources and the aim of zero wastage. Plans for the Sochi 2014 Olympic Park have also been finalized and it has been confirmed that the Russian International Olympic University will be built in the centre of the park.

Preparations for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games and Paralympic Winter Games are falling into place and will ensure that every detail is attended to and completed before the winter sport athletes of the world begin to arrive. It is set to be an unforgettable venue and future destination for visitors.
