Kavkazsky Reserve - Spectacular Nature
If you visit Krasnodar, you will find a number of small attractions in the town to keep you occupied during the day. These include the State Arts Museum, the Krasnodar circus and St Catherine’s Cathedral, to name a few. But none of these are quite as beautiful as the Kavkazsky Reserve. Situated not far from the town, this stunning reserve is the perfect place for nature lovers to while away their holiday. The reserve is part of the Caucasus Mountain Region – a vast and protected natural area. As such, it offers days and days of activities and sightseeing. Because Krasnodar is so close, it is the perfect place to use as a base for all your activities in the reserve. The Krasnodar Kavkazsky Reserve should simply not be missed.
The Krasnodar Kavkazsky Reserve is a natural area which has been set aside specifically for natural sciences research. It is situated at the western end of the Caucasus Mountains which means it is located in south-western Russia. It was established in 1924 and is about 2 633 square kilometers in size. The area is relatively green and is fed by the upper reaches of the Malaya Laba, Mzymta, Bolshaya Laba and Shakhe rivers. Thus the area is perfect for the preservation of natural vegetation and wildlife. In fact, this part of the Caucasus is one of the most biologically diverse in the Northern hemisphere. The concentration of wildlife and plant life in the region facilitates study which further adds to the value of the Kavkazsky Reserve.
The Kavkazsky Biosphere Zapovednik is part of a chain of nature reserves which all act to protect this unique biological treasure. It features a great variety of animal life including European bison which are incredibly rare and Caucasian tur and chamois. The refuge also looks after a number of endangered animals and plants which makes the reserve an invaluable addition to the network of preservation areas that stretch across the country. However, for visitors the best aspect of the Kavkazsky Reserve is likely its timeless beauty. Here snowy mountains top green valleys and dense forests while rivers sparkle and animals go about their business peacefully. It is a place that will give you lasting and fond memories.
