Explore the Beautiful Caucasus Mountains in Russia

The beautiful Caucasus Mountains are an awe-inspiring sight. Marking a point between Europe and Asia, this magnificent mountain range stretches approximately 1 127 kilometers between the Black Sea and Caspian Sea. The Caucasus rivals the Alps in size and height, with several peaks over 5 000 meters above sea level.

Elbrus is seen by many as the finest and most magnificent of all the mountains in the Caucasus. Nestled in the center of this impressive mountain range, Elbrus has gently sloping sides which come together and peak at an impressive 5 642 meters on it's west summit. Elbrus is often considered to be the highest peak in Europe and its volcanic blackened body topped with crisp, white snow is a sight to behold!

The Caucasus Mountain region is a beautiful and interesting place to visit. You will find warm summer temperatures in the valleys while snowstorms and strong winds rage on the peaks above. There are lush, grassy valleys dotted with flowers and hill sides crested with trees. The area is natural and 'wild' and is a great place to journey to if you are a nature lover. Mountain climbers also favor these incredible peaks, many of which can be walked up. It is advisable to get experienced help, however, since the higher peaks can prove to be quite a challenge.

Besides this, you can enjoy pleasurable forest tours of the megaliths which dot the Caucasus. These impressive stone structures were erected eons ago and their sturdy stone dolmen-type walls and round access holes are a mystery to behold. Some of them are even carved. You can be sure that traveling to the mystery and rugged beauty of the Caucasus Mountains in Russia will capture your heart forever.
