Explore the Cultural Hub of Novosibirsk
The city of Novosibirsk is a modern destination and is Siberia’s biggest city. Novosibirsk was founded for one simple reason: to be a junction and crossing for the Trans-Siberian Railway that was under construction at the time. It was established in 1893 under the name of Novonikolayevsk, but was renamed to Novosibirsk in 1925. It became the administrative center for the entire Novosibirsk Province and is home to one of the largest train stations. It is the perfect destination in Russia for business people and with all the available attractions in Novosibirsk it has a growing tourist industry.
Business and tourism are not the only factors that have made the city a flourishing destination in Russia, it is also seen as a cultural and educational center. With research centers, scientific institutes and the Novosibirsk State University, many students relocate to the Russian city to further their education. The artistic abilities and expressions of the local talent can be viewed at any of the opera houses, art galleries and theatres, and Novosibirsk is proud to have its own ballet company.
One of the most noteworthy attractions in Novosibirsk is the Zoo of Novosibirsk. It is easy to say that the zoo is probably the pride of the city. With more than four thousand different species of animals, birds and reptiles on display, the zoo attracts thousands of visitors each year. The Museum of Regional Studies and the Novosibirsk Art Gallery, both have a large collection of exhibits on show that will fascinate and interest all ages. The city’s dedication to culture is evident in the number of theatres. Visitors have a choice between the State Academy Opera and Ballet Theatre, the Youth Theatre Globus, the Theater Krasny Fakel (Red Torch Theatre), the State Dramatic Staryi Dom Theatre and the Novosibirsk Puppet Theatre.
The nightlife in Novosibirsk is alive and pulsating, with popular night clubs such as the Hungry Coyote (Golodny Coyot), the Alpen Grot, the Golden Gate and the Schuka. Pubs and bars around the city include the live entertainment of the Rock-City Pub, Pub 501 and the New York Times Bar. For guests that have a date with Lady Luck, they can meet her either at the Imperial Casino, the Prince Igor Casino or the Esmeralda Casino.
Transportation in the Novosibirsk is available in the form of the Tolmachevo Airport, the Novosibirsk Metro and a great number of taxi services throughout the city. It is also a sport-orientated city, and taxis are the most convenient method of getting to a game. With great teams such as the FC Sibir Novosibirsk football team, the HC Sibir Novocibirsk ice hockey team and the Sibirtelekom-Lokomotiv Novosibirsk basketball team, there is bound to be action in every corner of the city.
