Hello again Castle and Brian - good to catch up again.
Brian - I tend to go with Castle here. Easu had disrespected God's laws, his parents adherance to them, his own birthright rules and all the tenets of the family's God-given laws of heritage. He was a silly big boy who put one good meal before the whole concept of his relationship with God and his family. Wrong move.
Jacob was conversely a conniving, scheming little rat, but God had already prophesied that Easu and Jacob would both be great leaders - but that through Jacob God would see His plans progress. and that's how it was.
God knows the end from the begininning - he says what he means and he means what he says - and nothings' going to change that - not even our questioning... LOL
God sees nothing in shades of grey - only black and white - and so Malachi clearly indicates God's attitude to 2 men - one disowmed him and the other did not. God judged their attitudes accordingly.
