What I can't figure out (now) is that you say Rimma thought (by mass psychology standards) that Stalin would pop up and shoot everybody (In disbelief of his death) and exact punishment.
However, she is suppose to have personal information about the behavior of Berea (was she in the car?). You are describing two contradictory mind-sets...although people are complex...what exactly lead to her defector status? Or perhaps you wouldn't choose to talk about her anymore, right now?
I think you did read it in a book and I was trying to find out what book!
