I had a long story on this to tell things about Linux but it failed to hit the board. I can help those who want to try Linux. But the best way is to get an old PC with USB. Reason for the USB is because it is old but not too old. Burning the ISOs you download is easy with NERO.You would like Ubuntu because you like Xandros. MEPIS is another. It is a live disk you can try and get online and see if you like it and all devices function. But if you use it as wireless I suggest the Netgear MA 311 card.It works without any extra effort. Well.It is late.Work tomorrow.I can help anyone who wants to try Linux. If Voyager 13 returns he can be a lot of help. Good night.

I've tried Knoppix 3.3 and 3.8. Both worked very well with my older computer. Currently, I have Knoppix 3.8 installed on a 21 Gigabyte hard drive. It's somewhat RAM-hungry (I use KDE as the Desktop.), but everything seems to work well.

There are places you can order just about any Linux CD cheap if you do not want to try the download versions. Can you tell how to install Knoppix to the hard drive? Oh,Here is one that is maybe a good one to start on.MEPIS.On the left you see download.Go there.Pick Norrth America (if you live here) Find the highest version of the ISO and click download. To desktop. It might be about 650 mbytes. When you get it loaded to desktop you can burn a disk with NERO. You have to go to BURN to make the disk correctly. If you do that then boot up with the disk to try it out.If you like it then you can load it on a 4 gig or up HD.You load while it is booted up as there is a sign on the desktop to click on,Do not try loading it with windows if this is new to you because you would have to prepare room on the Windows HD. >> MEPIS >> http://www.mepis.org/

Look here for how to install Knoppix to the hard drive. (This is the main `Hard drive Installation' page.)

Just one thing: remember to verify the (Knoppix) image's MD5 sum before you burn the image to a CD! I didn't once, and ended up burning a CD chock full of errors. I've since learned my lesson.
