Xandros Desktop OS Version 3 (Open Circulation Edition)

My favourite Linux distribution. User-friendly, and great for beginners who wish to experience the power of Linux without the "pay and pay" nonsense you get from Linspire (formerly known as Lindows).

The Open Circulation Edition is a limited version of Xandros Desktop OS that can be download at no charge and freely distributed to others. It is strictly for non-commercial use, and no e-mail installation support is included.
It includes all the easy-to-use features of the Xandros Desktop OS Standard, Deluxe and Business editions, including four-click install with automatic disk partitioning, industry-leading hardware detection and configuration, seamless file and print sharing on Windows networks, and drag-and-drop CD burning in Xandros File Manager.

Xandros 2 open was my first favorite Linux,I still load it at times. Xandros .(In my view ) is more trouble to download and burn to CD. So I have no version 5. Most all the others are simple to make into disk. Here are some I like and use.My favorite is Santa Fe Linux. But it has to be bought if you want to load it.Free if you use the live version.Next is Damn Small Linux.Next Ubuntu.Mepis and a couple of others. If you want a wireless card that works with all Linux then you need the older Netgear MA 311.You can find that online by Google. But as for xandros 2.It most often is the easy one to load to HD and have everything functioning. Voyager 13 has helped me a lot with Linux because he is an expert in that area.He has been hard to find lately. His favorite is Suse Linux.

I like Russian ASP-linux. I use it on servers and on desktop as well... But on desktop I prefer windows XP, while I cannot even hear words "windows" and "server within one sentence!

I dont think I made an ASP disk yet. I see it is based on Redhat.I had made disk of Fox Linux and Ark Linux which are based on Redhat also.I like them but both had the kernel panic. It took awhile to get my harddrives in operation again. I dont know why it happend but I will not load those two on a good PC again. Here are all versions of Linux but I set it to Russian Language so those with Russian are listed. I saw ASP there. You can set it or leave it blank to see all Linux versions.>> http://www.linux.org/dist/list.html

Has anyone here tried Knoppix Live? I tried installing Gentoo Linux on my disk but gave me too many complications and it would not read my ethernet card. I have always used Xandros as my alternative. As justoleme said....it's almost flawless and never gave me any problems either. Works great with my new SATA HDD!

Yes. I have made Knoppix live disk but not Gentoo.I like Knoppix live, I tried to load it to hard drive a couple of times but failed. It is not easy to load .But the live disk is loadable,Damn Small Linux was made by stripping down Knoppix. Many Linux are live disk that you can load to hard drive. It is easy to download the ISO and burn it to disk,Now I have a large number of Linux disk. Oh.Maybe the reason I have not gotten Gentoo is because it is a three disk set like Suse 10. I just didnt want to do a three disk set.You can use one DVD though,I think. If you have a device that needs a lot of work to install the driver you often come out ahead by getting a compatable device. You can find out which works with your linux version by going to the forum for that version. An example would be a soundcard.Often I just use a Creative Live soundcard because they work. Wireless I use Netgear MA 311, the only way i get online now is by wireless but i can find out which card you an use to get cable or dsl working with linux.try the live disk and many work with what you have.If Voyager returns he can help with any linux question.

Thanks for your input and valuable opinions justoleme. Voyager13b is in fact quite knowledgeable in linux compared to a previous Moderator who claimed he was some 'expert' in the field but offered no help when asked questions.
