A referendum during wartime without consideration of previously democratically elected government is absurd. Only a Russian can think of that. Still a long way to go for Russia to embrace democracy.

I see, the on-call community Muslim terrorist is full of energy, all piss and vinegar. Good, so what was happening here? Eh…referendum. When thugs under Dudaev usurped power in Chechnya, they could have held internationally recognized elections and a referendum on independence. Instead they turned Chechnya into a drug dealers and kidnappers paradise, murdered and exiled population of “wrong” ethnicity and faith, “ethnically cleansed” the place and twice managed to start the war. Chechnya HAD peace before 1993 and after 1996. It was de facto independent. Instead of independence Chechens chose terror, and terror if not total extermination is what they are going to get.

Also, a threat much more dangerous to the world than terrorism is the ex-KGB movement in Russia which is successfully picking up speed. Unlike the Nazis threat, the KGB were not properly eliminated from the political arena after SU's collapse. China's growth and possible future alliance with newborn communist Russia might signal the continuation of the cold war.

Well, it is amusing to see a terrorist claim that terrorism is a lesser threat that the myth of resurgent communism.

United States and the Soviet Union had never fought a war against each other, and had only been allies in wartime . The same applies to all major democracies. Ask any average person in the streets of America or Britain what is the worst threat, and he or she will tell you that the worse enemy of humanity are you and your ilk, i.e. Muslim terrorists.

As of Putin being a Communist, that’s all nonsense. He is a German speaking mild-mannered intellectual of free market beliefs, who has been a great humanitarian in Chechnya, he is not brutal and resolute enough, and with all his stupid talk of peaceful Chechens, and obviously does not know how to handle the Chechen problem.

15 of 19 hijackers on 9.11 were Saudis, so was Osama B.L., however no sufficient action has been taken against either the religious establishments there preaching intolerant version of Islam, nor the corrupt government that sponsors various terrorist groups. They even slipped into Chechnya and Bosnia at certain points. The world for some reason is hunting for terrorists in sandy Afghanistan, and secular Iraq.

You right and you have just confirmed what the first poster was saying. Even if not all Muslims are evil, a disproportionately large number of them are. There is no such thing as a reliable Muslim ally (a verity recorded in literature since the times of Cervantes and once again proven by Saudi Arabia), Muslim terrorism and mass murder did not flare up just recently. Violence is the nature of Islamic existence. It is their bliss. Genocide of Armenians, mass murder of Greeks, the list is endless. Now they blow up buses in Kashmir, plant bombs in Parisian subway, murder tourists in Indonesia and Philippines, kill “infidel” civilians in Kosovo, blow up pizza parlors and restaurants in Israel, and so on and on. The NY World Trade Center was just the last straw.

You see Rain, even the occasional anti-Americanist can occasionally see the truth.

Clean up that Muslim religion of yours yourselves or don't bytch when we have to do it for you. Islam is a belief, not a form of governance.

America's military is gonna kill lots of Muslims before we're done, even a few innocent ones. You, Rain, and others like you could have save so many but you're just too lazy to fight for tolerance and rule of law.

Wait till we clean out Pakistan, whoa doggie, now that's gonna be some blood letting.
