ANGLO-AMERICAN OPERATION TO ISOLATE RUSSIA. A major operation has been launched by the hard-core Anglo-American "imperial" faction, under the guise of the "fight for democracy" is a de facto declaration of war against Russia and Russia's most important allies in Europe, France and Germany. The operation is based on an "Open letter to the heads of state and government of the European Union and NATO," which was published September 28 and which was signed by 100 prominent politicians and
strategists -- many of them being the hard core of Anglo-American transatlantic imperialists. The letter attacks Russia under Putin for having turned away from the core democratic values of the Euro-Atlantic community and calls for a "rethinking" of the West's policies toward Russia.
Among the most prominent signers are representatives from the US Neocons like Irving Kristol, James Woolsey, Robert Kagan, Francis Fukuyama, Francis Gedmin (Aspen) Berlin; John McCain, as well as some who are more liberal-oriented, like Sen. Joseph Biden and John Holbrooke. It includes also people like Timothy Gordon Ash from the UK; Carl Bildt, former PM from Sweden; former PM from Italy D'Alema; Stefano Silvestri (IIA); Ellemann-Jensen, former foreign minister from Denmark; Pierre Hassner of CSIS France; Andre Glucksman; former Polish foreign ministers Bartoszewski and Geremek; as well as the chairman of the German Green Party Reinhard Buetikofer; Friedbert Pflueger from the CDU; General Naumann (NATO), etc.
The key target in the letter is Putin's Russia and the thesis is, that Russian democracy is undermined in Russia. "Since Putin became President in January 2000, democratic institutions have always been weak and
fragile," the letter says. "We are worried about the deteriorating conduct of Russia in its foreign relations. President Putin's foreign policy is increasingly marked by a threatening attitude towards Russia's neighbors and Europe's energy security, the return of militarism and
empire.... These moves are only the latest evidence that the present Russian leadership is breaking away from the core democratic values of the Euro-Atlantic Community. The leaders of the West must recognize that our current strategy towards Russia is failing.... It is time for us to rethink how and to what extent we engage with Putin's Russia and put ourselves unambiguously on the side of democratic forces in Russia."

Russia is poised to become the #1 oil producing country in the world. I wonder just how far these freedom loving democrats would be willing to go if sanctions threaten their much needed supply of oil.

Besides, Saudi Arabia is no democracy, and they suffer no hostility from the west. What's up with that?

That's called "double standards" and "hypocrisy". Unfortunatelly, both terms have become western trademarks.

...after being an oficial policy of Kremlin for hundreds of years...unfortunatly...
Soudi Arabia is a totalitarian country, just like Russia, but it's totally dependant on the West, since, exept oil,it has,well....sand and nothing else.
Russia poses a much greater threat under a new furer, since, much like Washington,Kremlin just can't mind it's own business. Both have "national interests" all over the world. And both American and Russian working stiffs could care less about those "interests".

Angry I hope not

I sure hope not, but with that damn cowboy in Washington, D.C., it's sad to say that anything is possible. It makes me shudder.

Hypocrisy in the last four years

My country has become so hypocritical in the last four years that it's pathetic-starting with the 2000 election. The funny thing is that we think we have the right to say what goes on in Russian politics when we can't even do it right ourselves anymore!

America is the Titanic

I hope many in Russia understand how divided Americans really are.
The Republican party has spiraled into madness, choosing the role of being reactionaries. They want to America into a Pentecostal theocratic regime which seeks to make enemies from allies.
Democrats are outnumbered in both the House and the Senate. The more free-thinking of our citizens are now called un-American, or, worse, terrorist.
America is the Titanic.
No doubt about it.
