Madrussian:
Since I am not Russian I can't comment on the Russia China pact. This string is like Comedy Central! I never belly laughed in my life like I did a few minutes ago. Chase: "Stalin purges against the military?".... What history book did you find that one in? The way I remember it, Stalin purged those that were a threat to his power, and the "old school" officers and aging Generals. Stalin was insane, killing 20 million of his people too. He certainly didn't qualify for the Nobel Peace Prize or Humanitarian of the Year. <smile> Correct me if I am wrong. (and don't just say, "you're right, Stalin was insane!")<wink> WildCat: Blue water navy? Sure they do. Each day I see countless old leaking floating tubs full of illegals being smuggled to Canadian shores. <smirk> Russia doesn't need money from the US. At this point it is not a trump card. Millions are being poured into Russia's coffers from Gas and Oil exports to Europe. Have you check ed the latest oil prices on the international market? Assess Kicked? What happened in Vietnam and Somalia? Who ran away from both? And don't say Iraq; you never finished the job over there. What was that all about? B.Ungaro: "Salvation Army kick Russia's asses?" Napoleon and Hitler also thought they would have an easy time with the Russian Military and Mother Russia's people....... GeneParrish: Print this one out for your collection: "Nato cooling it's heels?" ..... NATO has outlived it's usefulness. The death knell came when they bombed Yugoslavia. It was formed as a purely defensive organization against the Warsaw Pact. In many political corners of Europe, they are asking themselves "what the hell did we get ourselves into," and "how long are we going to put up with the American attitude of we know what is good for you." What is good for Europe is a "United Europe" that will embrace Russia in the common cause for prosperity of all Europeans. When that is finally achieved, the U.S.A. sphere of influence will only be South America. Well, as I see it, my son just married a Russian girl, does that count? Am I not part of the Ruska Familiya? (Man,this is like right out of a Mario Puzzo novel) Boys: Don't mistake me for an "America Basher". In fact I love America and Americans. I live on this continent but I am sick and tired of people constantly putting down and "denegrating" proud Russians. Let us give credit, where credit is due. Yes, Stalins purges against the military. As you must know about the command and force structure of any military organization, the Soviet military was purged of "threats" which included a lot of good officers as well as the bad.
I did not mean to say that Stalin only purged the military, he purged the entire country. The ultimate point I was trying to make was that both China and Russia have internal conflicts that have more to do with this pact then any outside influence. And it can be worrisome any time any one (ie Yeltsin) starts rattling the nuclear sabers. But we should be pursuing better relations with Moscow. The point that if Europe ever united to include Russia, the US sphere of influence would definately be greatly reduced. No, it would still be global, but we would not be able to dictate policy and foreign affairs like we do now. On the bright side, we would not be the ones having to police all these "internal" conflicts. But Europe ever uniting like that is almost impossible, given their "enhanced" sense of history and wanting to avenge every little offense since the dawn of time. The US is pretty safe on that score. |

Yes Chase, but you did.
I forgot to add this. Germany and France are the staunchest allies in the drive for a united europe. They have a long history of hatred and rivalry. They put aside their differences. LillyNomad |

Chase,
>>When Nazi Germany attacked in 41, this "weak" military gave up ground (as is their custom) only to buy time until they could counter attack. << Now there was me thinking Germany attacked in the Winter and the weather had a lot to do with it especially as Hitler wouldn't send Winter clothing (He believed it would be all over in weeks) and his army had to fight in mainly summer uniforms! It didn't help either that the Russian Soldiers knew their own territory very well and were extremely good street fighters. Only politicians win in wars, the soldiers and civilians always lose. Cheers! Rags |

Greetings Madam Nomad,
You are a RIOT. Are you the one with the domicele in Florida or is it Cat? In any case I enjoy reading your chatter back and fort. You have a lot of good observations. On the Russian Military you are mistaken. Pay close attention to what will happen in Chechnya. Keep up the chatter. (Unagaro=Ungarn= Hungary=Hungarian) |
