Greetings Sowders,
This might shock you. Without CAPITALISM
there would be no need for COMMUNISM. I told you to go visit Hong Kong to see things for yourself. While you are there, take a side trip to the Philippines. Tell me if the people in the Philippines have done well under Capitalism. Tell me if they would not benefit from Communism.

Hello Ungaro,
I concede round one to you. You are very knowledgeable and could convince most people that up was down and round was square.
I concede the following to you.
1) I had believed that all Chinese people hated their government. This was based on news reports and knowing one Chinese guy that suffered greatly under Chairman Mayo's Cultural revolution. I have now learned that the Chairman position has been removed and the present leaders are limited to two terms. How long a term is; I don't know.
2) I concede that the people of Hong Kong may not hate the communist government solely based on your accounts.
Here are my arguments against the Taiwan take over.
At the time of the Shimonoseki Treaty, China's claim on Taiwan was tenuous at best:
only a few years earlier, in 1887, the Ching dynasty -- fearing Japanese expansion
towards the south -- had declared the island a province of the Manchu Empire. Before
that time, Taiwan had been a loose lying area, inhabited by aborigines, pirates and
some traders, and had not been formally incorporated in any political entity since the
period of Dutch rule (1624-1662).

The date 17 April 1995 marked the 100th anniversary of the Treaty of Shimonoseki, in
which China ceded its sovereignty over Taiwan in perpetuity.

Now China is saying marry me or I will kill you.

If every country tried to retake what it used to have, then Europe would be wiped clean of the human race. Maybe Austria could reclaim Hungry.

Greetings Gene,
Please call it a DRAW. I will have to research the treaty you mentioned to see how it applies to the current situation. I doubt
that it would include the BANDITS. I think that we all have to be concerned about propaganda. Communism, Russia and China have been used as excuses for some shady acts by the WEST. I will get back to you on the Treaty.
Good Luck.

Greetings Gene,
This Internet thing is great. The Treaty of Shimonoseki was between China and Japan. It gave the rights to the islands mentioned in the treaty to Japan, not the Bandits. Your favorite treaty became outmoded by the Treaty
of Taipei which was signed on April 28th, 1952. This treaty gave all rights to the same islands back to CHINA. If this situation
is not resolved by Legal Means instead of politics, it could result in the deaths of
thousands of innocent people. Remember VietNam? Had the USA respected the dictates
of the Geneva Convention on VietNam, all those fifty thousand American Soldiers and the millions of VietNamese could be alive today.

Hello Yugaro,
I could find nothing on the Tapai treaty but I did find this
treaty.

In 1951, the San Francisco Peace Treaty (SFPT) saw Japan renounce its claims to Taiwan. A beneficiary was never named.
Consensus was that the status of Taiwan should be determined by the people of Taiwan.

I see what you mean about Chinese bandits.

On February 28, 1947, several military police pistol-whipped an old woman alleged to be selling contraband cigarettes. Her death sparked island-wide revolts and protests. The KMT suppressed the rebellion by executing over 20,000 Taiwanese people and
wiping out a generation of political and demic elite - thus beginning its reign of terror over Taiwan.

Greetings Gene,
THE TREATY OF TAIPEI WAS SIGNED ON THE 28TH OF APRIL, 1952. ALL RIGHTS TO FORMOSA AND OTHER ISLANDS WERE REASSIGNED TO THE PEOPLES REPUBLIC OF CHINA. CASE CLOSED.
Good Luck.
