Hello Dr. W I saw that you are a Brit in another post. I love the British accent, it is sooo cute. And what kind of doctor are you, a PHD? What type of work do you do in Moscow? I'm just a curious person. Also I still want to help the Russian orphans, I have seen horror stories on TV about how cruel they are treated. I could send boxes of clothes, toys, etc. but I know it would be so expensive. If I ever get ready, could you give me addresses of orphanages?

hi Valerie
Sorry for the delayed reply, I've been offline. "Dr Woland" is only a pen-name, I'm not a real doctor of any kind! "Dr Woland" was a character in a Russian novel called "The Master & Margarita", he's a "foreign specialist visiting Moscow", and gets up to all kinds of tricks there. Since I'm a foreigner living in Moscow, it seems vaguely appropriate. BTW, I did not give myself this name... it was given to me by a Russian friend. But yes, I'm a Brit - I'm not really sure about the accent being cute, though! :-) I'd be happy to pass-on the names of 1-2 orphanages, but maybe other people here know some others too? There is also a charity in St Petersburg called "Red Kids" who are working with homeless children there. There is a very good organisation called "Na Dni" ("The Depths"), who are working with homeless people in several cities in Russia, who can suggest contacts in different cities. If you had any possibility to do so, you might consider looking at helping kids in Southern Russia or Siberia? There is almost no-one there to help them, they're the forgotten generation. Dr W. |
