Vladimir Gusinsky was charged with embezzlement on Friday, four days after being arrested, and held in a cell in Butyrskaya Prison. Following the charge, he was freed on bail.

Butyrskaya is Moscow's most overcrowded prison, commonly holding 4-5 men in cells built to hold two. The majority of those held there are those awaiting charge or trial for rape, assault, vagrancy, etc. It might have been expected that Gusinsky would have been held at Lefortovo, but no reasons were given for his incarceration at Butyrskaya.

My dear Gusinky, you should seriously consider exiting the Russian stage forthwith.

The media calls it Putin's BIG MISTAKE. I smell a TRAP. Guess who is the bait.

I don't see a trap, it's simpler than that.

Putin wants to flex his muscles early, and establish a new status quo. The message is clear - "mess with me, and you are dead meat". It's a return to the old system - "we'll nail you, don't think the law will stop us".

Gusinsky is wise enough to realise that he has to drive the wedge in now, before the opportunity is lost. If he acts firmly and decisively now - especially whilst the spotlight is on Putin on foreign trips - something of the long-fought-for democratic rights in Russia can be saved.

It's sad to see there are some people on this board who would sell all of this for the thrill of seeing Putin ride on a white horse wearing some cheap jewellery, and who know nothing of their country's history.

A Nonsonism: a cautious assumption: no ulcer, no doctor bills. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Message. Message. Message. The MEDIUM IS THE MESSAGE, ever and always. The king leaves town: nasty things happen. Message: keep king home. A newsman puts foot in mouth. Messaage: cut off foot to save man. The Bear is big and mean: Message: kill the beast quickly, or get the hell out of its way. The 'old mediums'are tried-and-true: Message: use old mediums to send new messages. When the Bear is hungry, newsmen become tasty and sought after morsels. Message: change one's occupation. Come on people. Sure its the same old same old. Does it ever change? This is just a new crop of players in the old game of I wanna be. Words from the enemies camp wont stop bullets or defuse bombs. The 'status quo' is the message: its mine. I captured it. I'll kill to keep it. Peace
