due to the blaze at the TV tower, Moscow has been without tv broadcasts for the past couple of days.
it's a surprising difference - children playing ball in parks and courtyards, people out walking, restaurants and cafes fuller than usual! ORT announced on the radio this evening that they hope to have at least a one-channel service up and running by tomorrow. Dr W. |

A one channel service? Wow, feels like the old times, I'm getting even more nostalgic now
There should be a global "No TV" week every year ![]() Just too bad that those two people died, Russia is full of accidents these days.... [This message has been edited by eerina.l (edited 30 August 2000).] |

I would love it if TV was knocked out in the US for a few days. Would give people time to wipe the saliva off their chins and actually pick up a book. I realize TV is necessary for some things, but most of TV programming is crap and presents an extremely distorted view of American life that some Anericans actually believe is the proper way to act (please forgive the run-on sentence!).

Greetings,
I am going camping for five days starting tomorrow. While our Rec. Vehicle has water, electricity and other comforts, by choice, we do not have a TV. It reminds me of the old days at my grandmothers house. We would sit around and listen to the Radio. We do the same now, while camping. We get to go to bed a lot earlier and get up earlier. By 6:00 AM, I have coffee made. We sit outside and watch the birds and the deer. Some of them are so tame that they come up and eat out of our hand. The Canoe is ready to go on the shore. After breakfast we go for a Canoe ride. No Sir, we do not miss TV at all. |

I too, love camping - my family ususally goes every year. We do it the REALLY old fashioned way - in a tent, with no eletricity and having to haul our water from wherever there's a faucet, or sometimes its just a pump. Cooking over a fire or a small propane camp stove. I enjoy TV, but its a shame so many of my countrymen (inclusive) just MISS the wonderful "show" all around them. Maybe that's why so many don't have any kind of real respect for the environment. I do. It just kills me that we have the technology and means to recycle something like 80-90% of our garbage and waste - but we don't. We'd rather just pile it into the Earth. SOrry. My little irrevevant soap box for the week.
![]() Its been a year or two since I was able to go camping with my family (my overseas travels have conflicted). I can't wait until the next opportunity. |
