Hey,

I don't hate Americans. I'm Canadian. But can you understand why many of us up here don't like you guys? South Park is a good start...
Not to mention that your armed forces are quite a disgrace in manners overseas. When I lived in Europe, the Americans weren't allowed in ANY establishments in our city because of their behaviour.
It's the apple theory.

Love the hardline, Glock.girl, but but it appears in public without proper attire. Is it the real thing, or is it prostitution? One of those hated Amerikas.

hi
ok.
don't know what to start with....
i'm Russian, but i spent 2 years in France, and this is my second year in the US. tell u what: i've been looking over some posts and it is true that all the USA-bashing is a REAL SHAME!!!!i got to say i'm NOT here by choice, and i'm coming back to Russia as soon as i get a chance to, but:
i do not have the heart to insult the country that accepted me and my family on its own soil. people here are nice and i made a lot of friends. talk about hate and competition and propaganda and Cold war 2 as much as u want, but i know that the real people (both Russians and Americans) DO NOT HATE EACH OTHER AT ALL 'cause they are all HUMAN,duh! i have seen a lot of evil in america but also a lot of good (like protection of a citizen's rights, respect towrds an individual, different races at least working towands peaceful coexistence, opportunity....)
No, fellow Russians, i am not an Americanized traitor and i am not saying what the U.S. gov't drills me to say. in fact, i love Motherland more than many people can imagine, and my first allegiance will always belong to Russia alone, buT

I AM NOT AFRAID TO SCREAM THAT USA IS GOOD AND WE SHOULD ALL AT LEAST RESPECT THEM AS NEIGHBORS AND ALL THE USA-BASHING GOING ON ON THIS SITE IS A HUGE S H A M E!!!!! THERE.

To Darci. You get upset that people bash America you ask people to stop. But America bashes other countries all the time.Look at the movies and how Russian people are portraid in them made in the US. This makes me upset but do you people care! No,I hear this every day Russia this and that on TV. Many of my friends children here are even afraid to say that they are Russian because they are lauphed at school. And are called "commies" "KGB", "Maphia" for amusement and techers say nothing. Many people here think that we live in woods with bears. That in Russia there is no summer. That we are hungry, poor and starving. I have being disrespected in every way here and I encounter it everyday from ordinary American. I am even surprised when everyones in a while some person talks to me normally, without sarcasm and irony in their eyes. So why don't Americans stop it. You are not above all! Americans act like masters! Those that spread hate shell receive it back! And it only going to continue more into the future. Look at the Americas foreign policy -do as you please. Do you think other nations like that. I know it hurts you and you think that we are bashing your country but insted we are writing our experiences how we were treated here our views and we exercise our freedom of speech rights. I am very upset and shocked at many of my guttles compatriots that live here in their own Russian getto's and kiss up to you people, tell you what you want to hear about Russia instead of trying to change your point of view. Many of them think it is hopeless to do so. They try so hard to be Ameriacan and end up to be despised even more. I really hate those people because they are liars, most of them were way better of in Russia then they are here especially Russian Jews. Those that stay behind after desolve of Soviet Union became extremely rich. And practically own everything now in Russia, Ukraine - that's where I am from. But these that are here struggle for every penny trying to make hands meat riping of each other and feading off the newlly arrived imigrants. Deep down inside they know they found nothing here and they have nothing to go back to. I know this is of the subject but incase one of them is reading this. I despize those people!
So, now you know how it feels. I live with this for 12 years man!

truth, lex?
here's the truth. some of the things u said stung me deep, cause i'm a russian in the US and i had to deal w/ some of the problems that u described, too. some aspects of how Russian are viewed are just.....
i think having Russia for Motherland is a high honor. i'm not scared of saying i'm Russian, i'm not trying to be American, and i'll never forget where i'm from cause that would mean losing the best part of me. but i was welcomed here, i and my family, and we made lots of friends. people here are not evil. ignorant, sometimes, yes, or VICTIMS of propaganda, but NOT evel. for one thing, i'm not allowing myself to hate them. by hatred, we are not gonna open people's eyes on Russia The Beautiful, we are just gonna humiliate ourselves and our country even more. I'M NOT GIVING UP. i daresay i personnaly have succeeded in changing some people's opinions. no hateful remarks are ever gonna break MY will. if the word 'Russian'was an insult here, i would be willing to be insulted everyday.

P.S. i think the best way to sow u respect your country is to respect other counries. that way, people will get the idea of how u want your country to be treated, if u get my point.

Love, Russian

Well, it's been quite a while since I've stopped by here and I can see that is true for most everyone else as well. I would, however like to leave these thoughts with anyone who might happen by.

Just to let you know, I am an American. I AM proud to be an American. Do I think America is the ONLY country in the world where folks have a right to be proud of their heritage? No way, shape or form! Do I believe everything I read, see or hear about other countries? Not at all! Do I think that America is exempt from propaganda, in any form? Not EVEN.

My being American, just as your (everyone) being whatever nationality you are was merely an accident of birth! That is, unless you emigrated and became a citizen of your "new" country.

If my husband's grandfather had not emigrated from the Ukraine or Belarus (still working on that one!), guess where his children would have been born. Or my husband's grandmother...try a "little village in the Carpathain Mountains"!

Some of MY ancestors were from Russia, Germany, England & Ireland. The only things they had in common was that they were ALL proud of their heritage and they all managed to end up somewhere here, in the US.

Bottom line, believing ANY propaganda, no matter who dishes it out, is for the weak minded. If you're inclined to let others do your thinking for you, that is your loss.

If you're inclined to let others influence your feelings about another nationality, religion or race...that also is your loss.

I am now in the process of starting to TRY to learn the Russian language (or more correctly, one of). My daughter's attempt at helping me learn about Russia for my research was to buy me language programs.

Perhaps, one day, I will be able to say Peace and Brotherhood in the proper way!

Question

Cat,

Why do you link nationality to religion to race?

One implied meaning is that a particular nationality will adopt a certain religion, and that a particular religion is peculiar to a certain race.

There are several other possible meanings which one might evoke from your statement, but the one givened should serve for now.

Peace
