Red face

Hi all:

I think I might have some clarification as to why all the 'American bashing' is going on.

Go to the open board, take a look at "how about creating a photo gallery?" posted by Ilay, and have a read at mr. barbour's Dec. 28 posting.

Enough said.

But in all fairness - he is only ONE.
Everyone is an individual. We cannot be judged by our nationality...just as individuals. Not everyone sees it this way, however, they only hear the ones like Ronbo.

Yes, I'm GUILTY! I am the original "ugly American" who stands for the U.S. Constitution and lassez-faire capitalism. I oppose all forms of statism - Socialism, Fascism, Monarchy and Communism. Also, I live in a representative Republic whose success as the world's only superpower came about not because that Americans are some sort of "superior" human beings but rather because of their commitment to the principles of liberty.

There are those who say that America's road to greatness was inevitable because of our vast natural resources. If this is the truth then why is not Russia a great power? After all Russia has many times the natural resources that America has and yet the Russian economy is on a level with tiny Holland. The awful truth is that for generations the Russian leadership attempted to impose centralized authoritarian regimes on their own countrymen and others!

I love my country - the United States of America! I am proud to be an American! I consider it an honor that I was allowed to serve in its Armed Forces as a professional soldier who freely volunteered his services! I consider myself a patriot -- which I define as someone who loves his own country, but is not in favor of the conquest of other countries -- as is the case with the Russian Nationalists today.

I suppose the Politically Correct crowd that dominates this BB will find these ideas of mine "reactionary" and "out of fashion" --well they are entitled to their ignorant and uneducated opinions!!! I would only note that they have the ability to express their polemics of stupidity because millions of American veterans like myself sailed overseas in the 20th century to fight five major wars in defense of the constitutional rights of all Americans.

Very Sincerely, Ronbo

Ronald, you seem to miss the whole point. Glock girl was very right to say that there is no problem in somebody's being an American. So if the rest of the world doesn't welcome people like you, you should guess there must be some other reason, right?

Everybody (regardless of where he is from) will have to face problems if he becomes too proud and thinks of others as ****. That's the main reason of negative attitude towards Americans. Nobody likes proud people.

Dear Melico:

I think it is you who doesn't understand what's happening here -- I have been the subject of repeated personal attacks by Woland, Nonson, Oca et al because of my political orientation and my unwillingmess to grant them the sanction of the victim, and have given back as good as I got.

In regards to being a proud American: This does not mean that find anything wrong with someone being a "proud Russian" or a "proud Englishman" or a proud anything else! In fact I understand and approve of patriotism in any country, as all nations are jewels in the crown of the human race.

However, I think that one's loyalty to one's nation has its limits. An excellent example would be the American Revolution in which the American colonists ceased to be "proud and patriotic Englishmen" when the British Empire became oppressive. They rebelled and rightly so!

The right of the People to revolt against oppression is recognized by Jefferson in the DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE in 1776.

Therefore, The United States of America can only claim the loyalty of Americans as long as its Government is not oppressive. If it becomes a tyranny, then it is the right and the duty of American patriots to reform it or overthrow it!

This is also the right and the duty of patriots in any nation on earth.

Sincerely, Ronbo

Nonson:

Just as a point of interest and for your vast repertoire of knowledge:

American officer’s serial numbers are different than Enlisted members, did you know that?
Also as a rule, American officers do not personally man any weapons such as Laws Recoilless Rifles etc. (Infantry). Such duties are the responsibility of Enlisted men.

Best Regards,

Oca

Cool

Oca,

My father was an officer in the USMC, and I have children in the military. Your info in quite correct. Thanks for pointing out my over-sight of this piece of intelligence.
