Talking

Hi! My name is Valerie, and I have heard that I am related to one of Czar Nicholas' personal friends, General Agafonoff. I also heard that he's very famous in Russia, but I really would like to find out more about him. So if anyone has any information on it, that would be great.

I have found only 3 Agafanoffs from the time period of the tsars - none of them generals. The 3 I found were a geologist, a sailor, and an artist.

AGAFONOV surname shows up as Untitled Nobility/Nobless Nontitree/Netitulovannye Dvoriane

RUSSIA NOBILITY GENEALOGY - GENEALOGIES IN THE COLLECTION OF T.F. BOETTGER

Looks like you'll have to read a real book to get further details re Agafonov surname. This is all I could find that shows any reference to the famous Agafonov.

MDRK = Savelov (Leontii Mikhailovich). Moskovskoe dvorianstvo : rodoslovnaia kniga dvorianstva Moskovskoi gubernii. Tom pervyi. Dvorianstvo zhalovannoe i vysluzhennoe, A-I.. [Moscow], [1914]. [Complete and partial genealogies of noble families of Moscow; no further volumes were ever published]

PS> It is always advisable to take oral tradition with a grain of salt.

Agafonov is Doukhobor surname in Russia!!!

PS> The czar and czarina were very orthodox in their religious beliefs. That would certainly help explain the connection.
