Smile Hello from America, Babyface

Babyface-
Hi! It is good to have another person to chat with in this forum! How did you happen to find Russia.com? I stumbled on to it because I am looking for information on the customs and culture of Russia. I am also interested in the sport of Ice Hockey. Do you have any favorite sports that you like to watch? Do you play any sports? When I was younger I took training in gymnastics for about nine years. Then unfortunately I had a growth spurt and reached the height of 5 feet 2 inches. Though it may not seem to be tall, I was at that point finding it difficult to compete. Tell me what experiences you have had if any in sports or even in school. Hope to hear back from you soon!

Smile Interest in Russian culture

Babyface-

It is good that you are involved in playing badmitton with the other boys! To be in an organized sport is good for you. You will have the friendship of others to enjoy, and also learn a little about the thrill of competition! These are all good things!

Where do you attend school? Do you go to school all year around? Here in America the children are given the summer off of school. This is when so many will start playing baseball or soccer. It is very HOT for the parents to have to sit and watch their children while they are playing in these games. Most everyone also likes to go swimming. They either go to lakes or if someone has a pond (a small body of water)on their own land. Many people also have put in their own swimming pools at their homes.

Do you live in a city or in the countryside? We live in the country and love it! I just looked out my back door a short time ago and saw a deer running across the field.

Don't worry about your English because you are doing very well at it. You are giving enough to be understood pretty well. No problem. If you need help and information on Russian culture then I am not the one to ask about those things as I am American. But maybe you can try the member who posts under the name of HATALbR. Maybe that person can help you with this.

Have fun and keep posting!

Hi from America!

I hope that it is not too hot right now where you live. Today it will be 90 degrees! That is too hot for me! To answer your question- I live in the State of Ohio. This is a Native American Indian (Iriqouis) name meaning "Beautiful River". If I drive one hour from my home I can go to Lake Erie up north. It is one of the "Great Lakes" and connects to Canada. There you can get on a ferry boat or a small plane and visit several small islands. Mostly people just go fishing or swimming on a beach (if you can find one, as they are very few, small, private or crowded) rent bicycles and ride them around the island or drink beer. They also have many small, old restaraunts and bars that serve the fish that is caught in the lake. The most popular fish that is ordered is Perch. It is ok, but it is small and always seems to have a bone or two left in it. Another type of fish that is served is Walleye. This is my favorite as it is large and more flavorful than Perch.

We also have a huge amusement park at the lake. It is called "Cedar Point". There is where you can ride roller coasters and all kinds of thrilling rides and see live singing and dancing performances. They also have a Water Park in it with fast rides that get you wet too! There is also a beach inside of Cedar Point. As you can probably guess, these things cannot generally be done in one day as there is so much to do and see and the lines are often quite long for each attraction. Many people come from other States and stay at hotels for two or three days just to get up and spend all day at the park. We live close enough to drive up and back in the same day so we get what is called a "season pass". This allows you to visit the park everyday that they are open all season long. It is much cheaper this way than paying each time you go.

Do you have any fun places to go like this where you live? I hope that you are studying hard and getting good grades in school. This is important! Our children go to school through grade twelve and then they graduate. Then the lucky ones, or smart ones go to college. This is very expensive but they are able to get good jobs after college. Everyone who graduates from High School generally has a big party, so right now is the time for lots of graduation parties. What grade in school are you in? Do you have plans to go to college and study anything in particular? Keep posting and ask what ever questions you would like to have me answer for you and I will do my best!
