ancient greek?

methinks that democracy comes from the words 'demos' and 'cracos' (not cratos, which might well mean love), where cracos means people. So in effect, the word democracy means "power to the people".

As far as I know, the word democracy comes from:

demos = people
kratos = power
kratein = leadership/ domination

the latin word Republica is, actually, the translation from greek

rex = power / domination
publica = people.

Sorry to interrupt.

I hope to start to contribute on the message board as soon as I can think of something worthwhile to say.

Happy May day to all if you get this as a holiday.

P.S. I think democracy is older than Communism. It was a philosophy thought up by the Greeks and comes from the Latin term Demos meaning Government by the people. I don't mean to sound like a smart alec but this is a fact.

Hi everyone, I am from Mossel Bay, a seaside town on the southern coast of South Africa. I joined Russia.com because I always had an affinity towards Russia and the Russian people/culture. By the way, fish and chips are not an exclusive English thing. Most South Africans enjoys their fish and chips. If you can't get it in Russia maybe you should take the opportunity to start a fish and chips café.

Regards from (mostly) sunny SA.

would the presence of fish and chips be the result of a massive cultural infusion by the english during the age of imperialism?
