Stalin?

Surely it was the weather that finally defeated the Germans not Stalin. Sure, the idea of relocating the factories to the Urals and scorched earth (as used in 1812) were great strategies as well as using propaganda to unite the soviets. But are 20 million lives the best way to win a war? Sacrifices are inevitable but as Stalin said it was just a statistic.

tasker,yeah,25million dead and another 25million homeless is an enourmous price but,Russia was the only country that stood up to Germany`s legendary ground army!! and 90% of all german troops that died, died on the eastern front!!!!
killed by russians! and the weather, well it only slowed down german advance on Moscow! it did not defeat the mighty nazi war machine! the Russian blood did!

Yeah right, blame the weather! First of all the war began in June, and by October (i.e., before the "horrible" Russian winter) the Blitzkrieg strategy was already going nowhere. And may I remind you that the Mongols conquered Ukraine and half of Russia in the 13th century and were able to control it for nearly 2.5 centuries without complaining about the weather. That's what I call progress!

Russia lost 20 million, most of them urkrainians.

what is the difference between the two, 5 million or germany lost the war?

Exclamation tasker

How can you say, that it was the weather who defeated Germans?! Its nonsence. It was a great Russia soldier who was it. The weather was friendly to people on eastern front, to soldiers, but what about the people in Leningrad. Was that mercilful? I guess not. The destiny of the Earth was in hands of Great Soviet Union and their people. That is true!
