Hi all,

Now I humbly request as much information as possible about Ivan IV, this is for a little essay I must compose and, unfortunately, I have no in-depth knowledge of him. If you can help, please do so. Thanks.

Kalinin

You are joking, right?

Ivan IV (the terrible) 1533-1584 or Ivan IV who shared the throne with Peter I from 1676-1682?

How much information do you have right now?

I can give Kalinin a fresh topic for his little essay on Ivan the Terrible.

Rzeczpospolita [Commonwealth of Poland and Lithuania], a powerful state born in 1569, started her extensive diplomatic activity all over Europe, not omitting Muscovy. Ivan was regarded as one of possible candidates for the throne because basic Rzeczpospolita's ruling system assumption was that the King was elected in a direct democratic process when representatives of nobles of all lands gathered and gave their voices.
The envoys from Poland visited Moscow in 1570. It was extremely exotic visit. Lithuanian nobles knew the Muscovites better and they did not like that Poles contact Muscovy.
There is written historic report from this visit. The Poles were astounded as during official party the Tzar selected one of his princes, ordered him to put down his trousers, expose his bare buttocks[ogholic' zad]**, knee and then parade on all four a few times in front of all guests and Muscovian nobility.
The Polish noble guests stopped their breath and could not utter even a word.
Chances of Ivan the Terrible of getting the Rzeczpospolita's throne fell down that evening.
Lithuanians were right, Ivan gave Poles a good lesson of what is true meaning of samodyerzhavye(self-ruling).

** Poor prince, he was probably happy that the Tzar did not order to slit his throat this evening!
