About the so-called Khazar Jews.
It's very hard to believe many Jews would have gone over the Caucasus to go convert a whole tribe. Maybe their King did(maybe why he left) Judaism has never been popular, but so was Islam in this region! The Khazars dissapeared like so many nations did, they probaply went up into the Kazaks. Like Prawda said most Jews were made slaves, and were brought to Europe, the rest fled to North Africa to end up in Spain and Italy, to go again after new persecutions in those countries to the rest of Europe, and Eastern-Europe. There is still little known about the early midle-ages. Don't forget it was the collapse of Rome, THE civilization then! Peter |

Hoping for interintwinded relatives
I have to agree it's all very interesting and that I, from the United States; is intertwinded with people from your part of the world. My greatgrandparents say they were born in Austria 1884 & 1889; they say this in the year 1910. In the year 1930 it's recorded their ethnicity was Russian. My mother tells me when she was a little girl (she was born 1932) my greatgrandparents & grandma celebrated Christmas January 7th. I've just discovered all this just a few years ago. Having watched "Barbarian week" has enlightened me that maybe Huns, Vikings ect. could be my relations from way way way back; Although, I don't have a clue. I'm considering the new DNA technique that suppose to help with genectics. Has anyone else considered this? I'm new to Russia.com and have found it to be very informative on peoples views. Thank you.
