How can I go to Iraq when I'm not in the Marines at the moment? You obviously don't know how the military works. I can't just walk in. Medical, intelligence tests, physical tests, interviews I can't just say 'I want to be in the Marines' and they let you in. This is isn't a rookie military, we do things properly.

Yes, people in the military follow orders that is how order is kept. That is how you fight with order and discipline, without them you wouldn't be able to fight a war.

Prawda, you don't know about war, you don't know how it is fought. You obviously don't have a clue about the British military system and you don't have an idea about country ties. We go out in Iraq because we are fighting for our countries name in an act of goodwill for the Iraqi citizens, to free them from Saddam. The British government and people wanted to be a part of this, and the only way to be there was through the military. Following orders is what the military does.

And I have a question I have asked before which you have not answered. Do you think your Poland is precious and would you defend it, if attacked? I've never actually seen you say you respect Poland, I might start to be thinking you are using Polands history as a way to get at the west when you don't even respect Poland.

Please take a minute or five to read this (I know, I never say in a minute what could be said in ten ).

Prawda and Limey (and Panzerschreck, stirring the pot). You guys keep this thread rolling, and when you're not trying to slit each others throats, lots of great dialogue is exchanged, and other opinions are posted. Besides, I enjoy the arguments here when they stay on topic (for the most part).

As we all know, history as percieved and reported by human beings is subject to ideological perspective, personal interpretation, national pride, and in many cases, more national pride. We all know it going into an argument, and we all know that we can beat our heads against the wall, but some people are going to remain immovable in their conviction, despite any attempt at applying what we consider to be reason.

I'm sure that there are "Voyager" dartboards being sold somewhere that lend credence to my thought.

But I digress....

Prawda. Stop with the personal grenades. You are a fixture around here, and I enjoy reading your comments when you keep your head screwed on straight, even when I disagree, but you have a habit of baiting people into a streetfight if they don't come around to your point of view in ten minutes or so. As I said above, it ain't gonna happen every time, so get used to it. If you lose your cool when you read a reply, go watch a TV show and answer later.

Those of us who read this thread without always pitching in are able to judge the opinions offered without having to go through a page of posts explaining why "the other guy" and his kin are the biological equivalent of numerous foul four letter words. Really, we can figure it out for ourselves.

Remember, an occasional blast indicates an extreme response that may be deserved. To see the same over the top taunting all the time gets real old, real fast. You can do better than that. I have seen it time and time again. Save the personal stuff for the occasional mild comment, use the forum to express YOUR viewpoint on an issue in an inspiring manner. Let everyone else speak for themselves.

I can almost picture Prawda lighting your fuse when he gets frustrated. In my opinion, you are at once very articulate, and "hardcore" in your views. I enjoy that, as a little joust now and then makes for a good day, win or lose. Then again, this thread is pretty much you and Prawda butting thoughts, and both of you must like it to some degree, as you all keep at it, and the thread is a popular place to visit for other folks.

I can't fault you for the way you respond to Prawda when he goes over the top, but I can suggest that you have enjoyed arguing with Prawda long enough to know what derails him from the subject at hand, and I ask that you keep that envelope in mind when you offer him your opinion. As opposed to a general public statement, remarks directed at an individual should be made with consideration of that individual. Which is to say that what is an appropriate manner for you and I to carry on when we dissagree, might not be the best choice for everyone who has an opinion here. I think you understand the goal.

Getting a head shot in while someone is busy fighting with someone else might be hard to resist (and fun), but please try to resist. We are supposed to be all about discussion here. Prawda has been a part of that discussion for a long time, and I REALLY want to see him grow in terms of making his points without reaching verbal DEFCON 1. You are quite right that his English skills are tedious, but he never claimed English to be his first language, and he communicates well enough that Limey and others have taken the trouble of debating with him over time. Also, it has improved with time. Do you think that your written English skills could stand up under the proverbial microscope? I don't want to put mine there....


OK, that's it. We all like each other, hate each other, or fall in between somewhere. Meanwhile, discussion is the motive force of this forum. Let's all make an effort to keep it more civil than not, and try to avoid pushing each other's buttons. I'm asking everyone to help with that goal, as the alternative is to once again go through the Hell this board went through several Months ago. How about it? You all know that I'm not an eraser tyrant, and that I love to argue. This forum is ours. Let's treat it that way.
