I was just trying to make a point that you can't judge success in a war by lives lost on your side or lives killed on the other side. See WW2 for an explanation.
Comparing the Soviet Union's venture into Afganistan with the USA's venture into Vietnam is like comparing a fat person who dies from a heart attack to a smoker who dies from lung cancer. They are both dead. Now, let's learn from their mistakes. If it seems like the Soviet Union is given more of a hard time for the Afganistan War than the USA in the Vietnam War, this is probably due to the former being the more recent. To be honest though, I've never heard anyone in this country refer to the Soviet Union as a laughing stock for this war. The USA was concerned going into Afganistan because of the Soviet Union's failure. But the USA had a lot of help in Afganistan, even the French! Are you sure about that 3 million Vietcong killed? That's a pretty high ratio compared to 58,000. I've also read that the South Vietnamese lost 250,000. Is this wrong as well? |
