Question

If Russia helped America and Britain attack Iraq, what would happen??
Pros
1. In one way relations between these countries would be better, since America and Britain had no support from Europe’s major powers.(war on terror, bah!!)
2. If Russia manages to pour greater amounts of troops into Iraq, Russia could at least capture one third of Iraq’s oil with Russia’s oil companies.
3. Russia could also control American and British power in Iraq, by at least influencing the government.
4. Show the world that the Big Bear isn’t hibernating in Siberia!!
5. Russia may have more support against the Chechens. (most unlikely)
Cons
1. The other way around, relations might worsen, because America has to share the oil cake and power cake with another country.
2. Russia’s relations with the Islamic world will be worse than America, and Chechen rebels and terrorist will be everywhere.
3. If Russia suffer more casualties than last time in Afghanistan and Chechnya, Russia would not only be the laughing stock of the world, it could also prove that the government wastes so much money on the war for nothing, just like Roman Abromovich wastes money on useless players.

Vietnam vs Afganistan War

Hey Robocop-In the Vietnam War, an estimated 900,000 Vietcong were killed. How many Afganistan rebels were killed by the Russians in the Afganistan War?

Thumbs up War question

I was just trying to make a point that you can't judge success in a war by lives lost on your side or lives killed on the other side. See WW2 for an explanation.
Comparing the Soviet Union's venture into Afganistan with the USA's venture into Vietnam is like comparing a fat person who dies from a heart attack to a smoker who dies from lung cancer. They are both dead. Now, let's learn from their mistakes.
If it seems like the Soviet Union is given more of a hard time for the Afganistan War than the USA in the Vietnam War, this is probably due to the former being the more recent. To be honest though, I've never heard anyone in this country refer to the Soviet Union as a laughing stock for this war. The USA was concerned going into Afganistan because of the Soviet Union's failure. But the USA had a lot of help in Afganistan, even the French!

Are you sure about that 3 million Vietcong killed? That's a pretty high ratio compared to 58,000. I've also read that the South Vietnamese lost 250,000. Is this wrong as well?
