let me explain the word 'poor'.Last spring I won a contest and I had a chance of spending three weeks in a french family.I don't mind telling you that I had some really big problems,because I needed to prove them that Lithuanians have mobile phones,that the sun is shining in Lithuania too,that we have cars and we eat as much as we want.The lack of knowledges about my countrie makes foreigners think about us like poor people.I'm glad that you found Lithuanian people 'super'.

Sure! I believe that Lithuania has cell phones, etc. There aren't many people who don't these days (I am proud to be one ) but that is what I meant about "poor". You could be a millionaire and still be poor in my eyes. Well, not everyone sees it this way. Yes! The Lithuanian people that I was fortunate to be with were super and very generous.

I agree with the last reply by Glock Girl..If you're wealthy...finacally..but with out anyone,i don't consider that person very well off..In the west we often judge a person by thier earning capacity,and social standing first..and who they are second..

I'm not a supporter of communism, but still i hate when people see in communism (or anything else) only negative. Yes, there were hardships caused by communists, but there were also some positive things (on my view). Of course, i regret, that Russia annexed Lithunia and caused them to be part of the system, that didn't bring them any prosperiry from financial point of view. But as you mentioned, don't you think that Lithuanians are great? Dont you think that there was some contribution of the system from moral stand? Even the sense of unification and the feeling to be one nation could be view as positive (of course there are other better ways to get that sense), but what about educational system: if people were "so" repressed, how come about 100% Lithuanians (as well as Russians) are good-educated? ok, i think i'm going to the side of my main point, but here it is: people in Lithuania and in Russia are really friendly, open-minded welcoming. I'v traveled a lot with in former USSR, have been in Luthiania and i'm visiting Russia every year, and every time i come back from the western world where majority are always in some kind of hurry and concern of something (dont take it offensive, it is probably positive characteristics), always trying to make up some kind of schedule a year ahead (i'm getting contiminated by this:-), they simply dont notice the beaty of the life, all the happiness comes with paycheck, not much concer about those who surround them, everything is very practical, though longer i stay here (US), less i notice it, but every time i come back, i get so surprised, pleasantly surprised how relaxing and pleasan it is to be among people who don't consider life to be 100 meter hurdles. Of course, may be this is a cause of problems, but wouldn't it be nice to make positive changes keeping old culture, why people suppose that the western way of life is the example, and why all the countries of former Sov. Un. have to strive to be like West. I think it is nice that Luthianians and Russians are so different, some time prosperity would come, is it worth of it? I often ask myself this question, and right now i dont have exact answer, but i hope that there would be some chance for people of that region to be the way they are (in the moral sense) now, and same time adjust to a highly financially-standardized world. Wouldn't it be great society?
