Last week I read large book about Rasputin. It's titled 'RASPUTIN - the last word' by Edvard Rudjanski(?).
As a matter of fact, Rasputin was in fact a great Russian. Though, his life style was mysterious but he achieved so great in his lifetime and influenced Russia in his days. I suspect it's not unwelcoming to place Rasputin in the black book of History, but should be among the greatest Russians of all time.
In fact, he was a mere peasant from Siberia who came to the Capital (then Petrograd) to rule the whole Russian Empire. He had wisdom and in number of times did he foresee what the Tsar and the whole government were blind to. He reckoned that the wars (the japanese war and the fist World war) would be hazardous on Russia and should be stopped. Though he had some negative sides but no one is perfect, isn't it?

Thumbs down

I must disagree?Rasputin, one of the greatest Russians? I have been studying him in considerable depth recently, and find it quite difficult to view him in such a manner. Yes, his foresight on the Japanese War and World War I were accurate and could have been beneficial if taken into consideration, but this is infinitesmal compared to the damage he caused.

At the outset of my research I planned to write a paper on how grievous the popular negative opinions on Grigory Efimovich are, but eventually found this impossible to do. He didn't posess any more wisdom than the average man, and was mysterious mainly in the sense that it's incredibly difficult to figure out the motivations and mentality of such a man.

He is regarded as a monk, which he was not; never was he trained to be such, and the priests, et cetera, who at first regarded him as venerable quickly changed their minds (and tried to change those of others) after seeing his true character.

Furthermore, he basically destroyed the imperialists. Not to say that Russia should be ruled by an absolute power, but the Romanovs' end might not have been so inhumane if Rasputin hadn't spread such horribly untrue rumors about them, and acted so outrageously in public.

Rasputin is very controversial figure of Russian history.
Was he a holy man? Healer of the young Czarevitch?
Lover of the Czarina? Had knowledge of the future?
His predictions were accurate regarding W.W.1, the civil
war and the dead of the family of the Czar.
I watched a documentary recently and people who knew him
had very positiv opinion about him. They said, that he
would have given away even his last shirt. And he would
help everybody. However he was not popular within the
ruling class. He was an interesting figure in the history,
but to be a great Russian takes more to qualify

And finally, how much it took to get him killed.

BEST REGARDS: VOROSILOV

Unhappy

Sorry Sammy,
Reading 1 book doesnt class you as an expert on the subject. Rasputin was a drunk dillusional maniac, the things he predicted were just coincidence and he partly destroyed the economy of Russia after he expelled all the ministers and replaced them with his friends which helped to ensure Russian defeat at the hands of the Germans. You say that he came from a poor background, that is partially true but I suggest you read some books on Lenin and Stalin and see what backgrounds they came from and most notably what they managed to achieve for their country.

Agnieszka,

It's not about being serious, it's about knowing something about the world you live in and its history. Just out of curiosity, how old are you?

You can read here about Rasputin

Good question how old are you?
Read some Rasputin books and some Russian hisotry books, if you can read Russian, may I suggest a book called "Ñ óìà èëè ñ óìîì, ÐÀÑÏÓÒÈÍ", it's a very good book, I also suggest looking on the internet.
