Does anybody have any information related to the Russian Expedition Corps in France during the WWI?
I'm doing my private research on this topic because my grand father served there. All I know is that the REC entered to France in 1915 (or 1916) after a long sea trip from Vladivostok around Asia and Africa. After the revolution in Russia in 1917 the soldiers requested to send them back to Russia. All of them were arrested and locked in some French fortress. There're were revolt there. French troops opened fire and the revolt was smashed. Those who agreed to continue fighting against Germans formed another unit and then were sent to Thesalloniki, Greece, front. I don't know about their future. The rest was under arrest. In 20-s some of soldiers returned to Russia. My grand father was among them. During the Stalin's regime he spoke a little about his past. As far as I know he was kept in some French prison camp in Algeria before returning home.
Any help or ideas are welcome!
