IT WAS RUSSIA WHO WON WW2

Its funny how people are so into their ideas that the U.S won the second world war. If anyone won the war it was RUSSIA. It was the 25 million troops alone that died for Russia. The Germans thought they were winning, then Russia brought out the tanks. Then Russia froze the foreing invaders. Was it Russia or not who won the war? It upsets me that people dont seem to understand that.

Well, there are only two things you are forgetting about the second world war. First, It is the Allies that won the second war of the worlds. Basiclly it is hard to say anyone could have done it without the help of the other country. Second, Russia, was not Russia during world war two, they were the Soviet Union. Thus, they had some 11 countries of people they could (and would) just put a gun into there hands and force them to fight. Stalin didn't give a damn who died, just as long as he stayed in power, hell, look at all the gulags he set up around he Soviet Union. Stalin killed more of his own people then Hitler killed Jews, Gypsies, Christians, basiclly anyone against him. The Soviets did put up and excellent fight, I am not saying they didn't, just look at the streets of Stalingrad, but the main reason the Allies from the west (mainly Americans, true) did not reach Berlin, was because General Eisenhower did not want to lose anymore americans lives needlessly. Smart choice knowing the Soviets would willingly march to death.

Hi everybody,

This is an old subject, there are a lot of talk about it on Russia.com.

Sovjetunion won the war anyway. The germans bled to death in the Sovjetunion loosing manpower and equipments.

The allies landed in Normandy only to prevent Stalin to wash his boots in the Le Manche.

The Russians had great luck that they had a great leader like Stalin in the most critical time of their History.

Anything else is writen on the subject is simply speculation and distortion of the facts.

Please think about it, who would have destroyed Hitlerist Germany in the case of the infinitive German - Sovjet pact?

This pile of (nice thoughts) of yours is just pathetic try to undermine victory of the Russian people and other nations that lived in USSR then.
In your words, Russians and others were forced to fight against Germany? Otherwise they wouldn't protect their homeland? That's a spit into their face, don't you think?

Having said that, I do agree that it was Allies who won the war, with Russia contributing the most into the common victory (80% of German casualties were inflicted by Russians), I do agree that Stalin didn't care about people, and I do believe that the war was won dispite Stalin, not thanks to him. Stalin did more harm than good, fortunately he realised it early and gave Zhukov a lot of freedom in military decisions.

I'm stating this from memory; if I remember the numbers correctly, in the European Theater of WWII the Western Allies defeated approximately 40 Axis divisions. The Soviet Union destroyed or otherwise defeated something like 650 Axis divisions (this may also include Soviet action against Japan in Manchuria). Unfortunately the people of the Soviet lands paid a terrible price in doing so. Any way you look at it the world today would be a fundamentally different place if the magnificent resistance of the people of the USSR hadn't happened.

comrades, i think when your talking about who won the war you should talk about the soviets not the russians. my grandfather, although of russian descent, was born in the ukraine and would object to people saying russia won the war as if the countries of ukraine, belarus, the baltic states, georgia, armenia, moldova, azerbajan and central asia had nothing to do with it. the great patriotic war was won by the soviet people of ALL the lands of the USSR. not just that of the RSFSR.

I do apologize for saying that Russia won the war, it is my way of refering to the former Soviet Union (Russia is the largest). I have great respect for the other countries who did just as much as Russia to win the war. But I do have to insist that it was the Soviet Union who won the war. If the Hitler had not decided to invade the U.S.S.R there would be no america, or britain. The "Royal airforce of Brittain only picked off remains of the German army. Yes Stalin was a great leader, but he was phsyco too. France didnt do ****. And for the rest of the other countries, there was nothing they could do. China however, I am still unaware of their participation in WW2. Please fill me in.
