Ahm, maybe you mean gulags.

go to http://www.google.com and type in gulags in USSR.

I hope I destroyed a great deal and learned you how to catch a fish.

If you still can´t catch it, try

It is not the best site, but there is some info.

I found this on the site I provided

"In 1935, a coal miner called Alexei Stakhanov dug 102 tons of coal in a single 6 hour shift.
This was fourteen times more than a miner was expected to cut. Stakhanov was praised as
an example to all other workers and was rewarded.
Across the USSR, Russian workers were told to model themselves on Stakhanov. Workers
rose to the challenge in what became known as the Stakhanovite Movement. However, the
public were never told that Stakhanov did not achieve this amazing feat all on his own.
He had two helpers and importantly his machinery was in perfect working order.
This was just one way in which Stalin attempted to persuade his new industrial workers to
work more efficiently. Study the source to find out more about this and other methods
Stalin used."

Interesting data.

Let me know if it is any good for you.

This is also a map where they were deported, according to "Fr Lucjan Królikowski's book Stolen Childhood, 1983"

This young person already knows what he wants to know.
You see it was Soviets who kept Poles and Jews in concentration camps, not Nazies.
Such position of young Kiwi doesn't really surprise me.
I actually visited Aucland and Auckland museum.
They have exposition there devoted to WW2.
Not bad exposition, they have whole Japanese war plane in there.

In one place there is huge entrance and on both sides of that entrance there are portraits of WW2 leaders, on the left Allies', on your right the others.

To my real astonishment, on my left I saw portraits of Roosvelt, Cherchill and .... Japanese Emperor, on my right, Hitler, Mussolini and Stalin.

So, you see, I don't like Stalin, but in this case he represents the whole nation.
And looking at pictures young Kiwies will see straight who friend and who is enemy.

Japan is very important trading partner for New Zealand, so Kiwies don't have any problems to sell the truth as well.

Economical results might be good, but you also have such "collateral damage" as princestash. This young person won't have a clue about history.

Tash - The Soviets aren't exactly known for their record keeping, and even when they did keep records they were not very reliable.

As for the jews and pols they were sent to places where work needed to be done. Many times they were sent to mobile camps sometimes perminate. The reason for death was hypothermia, starvation, fatigue, and disease. They were basically worked to death.

As for the camps themselves they are mostly gone. This is not something that the Russian people want to dredge back up. This is hard enough as it is.

Why on earth would you want to know where they are?
