Hi --

Does anyone know ho to russify Windows98? I have a standard Russian keyboard installed, but it is kind of difficult to use it, because Cyrillic letters do not correspond to Latin letters, which I am used to. I can type in Russian, but it turns to be too slow, because I have to pay attention to every single key I push

I know that Mac system has a so-called "Cyrillic keyboard layout". I used to use it, and it was very convenient, because there is some similarity, such as "M" is "M", "N" is "N","A" is "A", etc.

I wonder if there is anything of this kind for Windows 95-98.

privet Daria!

I prefer to keep my pc "not russified" but I still need to type in cyrillic. So I use a program called "cyrillic starter kit" from
www.fingertip.com. I think it costs about $25. There are some cheaper or free ones, but this has several nice facilities included.... The best of these is a "design your own layout" option, where you can create your own layout for either English or Russian.. you can have multiple layouts... and hot-key between them instantly. Supports KOI-8 and WIN formats, also supports most other languages written in cyrillic except Mongolian. Only works when running in the background, so no permanent "damage" is done to your pc :-) Very simple and quick to install! Free trial for 45 days.

why not just use stickers?

most of my friends use them (especially for the notebooks bought outside Russia)

if you will use the layout with letters similar to the latin it would be difficult for you to use any russian keyboard or typewriter.

(there are just to GOST certified layouts -
ÉÖÓÊÅÍ and ßÒÐÅÂÛ - same to american QWERTY)

privet ILay and Daria

I forgot to mention it, but the main reason for recommending "cyrillic starter kit" in this case, is that one of the pre-defined keyboard layout choices is "phonetic equivalent" - so "Ï" is where latin "p" is, etc etc.
