Translate to English Please
Hi there,
I bought an old hand painted Russian powder box at an estate sale & have been trying to translate the markings on it. I was able to figure out a couple of the words... like Kiev, factory & Russian, but haven't been able to figure out the rest of the words. The first photo below, I think, is the artist's signature & the second photo is the tag on the back of the box. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Denise [IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG] |

First picture - Artist's writing is in Ukrainian ("Kiev, Zoloti Vorota" or Kiev, Golden Gates)
Second Picture - Tag is in Russian: MMP (This should be abbreviation for company/entity type, just like "Ltd", "Co" etc in English) USSR (Ukrainskaya Sovetskaya Sotsialisticheskaya Respublika. All words should be clear here) Kievskiy Gormestprom Fabrika (Here Gormestprom is: "Gorodskoy Otdel Mestnoy Promyshlennosti" or City Department of Domestic Production) Suvernirno-Podarochnykh Izdeliy (Souvenir-Gift Manufacturing) Then the address of the manufacturer is written on the tag. Although half-torn, bottom part of the tag has the description of the product: "Shkatulka". Rgrds. |
