Since this is the "Year of Russian Language", why not learn to speak the language of the world's largest country? Also, it is fun to explore outside of our own little, tiny worlds that we are so safe in. Expanding our minds is beneficial, not only to ourselves, but the circle of associates that we may connect to. Also, it's just plain fun!

To study Russian it is necessary only when you are assured that to you this vital. Russian very complex and consequently to learn it in perfection for short time to not turn out. Years are necessary to seize Russian to the full. English language is good for transfer of the information, but only Russian it is possible to transfer all palette of feelings and intonations.
