Glagolitic alphabet

This is the alphabet that was the basis for Cyrillic. As a student of Russian, I find this intensely interesting.

Origin
During the 9th century, Saint Cyril and Saint Methodius, missionaries in Great Moravia, invented the Glagolitic alphabet in order to translate the bible and other religious works into the language of that region. The alphabet was the basis for the modern Cyrillic, which is named at St Cyril, although probably not invented by him.
