it depends on the referance.

Unless "Kak da" means "kogda" (when) it makes absolutely no sense to my Russian ear, sir.

Well, come to think of it, "kak da" might mean "What do you mean - "yes"?
"Kak" can be used when you're shocked/surprised to hear something, like "Etu rabotu nyzhno sdelat segodnya ( This work must be done today) - Kak segodnya?? (What do you mean, "today"???

"Yes but how" would be "Da, no kak?
"Kak da" can NOT be interpreted as "yes but how".
