Hello

I am hoping that someone might want to help me with a short russian phrase or maybe it is only a word. To my untrained ear it sounds like "kak da". Is there anything in the russian language that sounds like this and if so what does it mean?

Regards Thomas

There's the demonstrative pronoun - 'kogda.' It means 'when.'

i think that it may be 'kak delo' [pronounced 'kak dela'].

as usually happens with native speakers of any language, syllables are often swallowed or not clearly pronouced...

kak delo = how are things

Thank you both for your replies but unfortunately neither of them is what I was hoping for. I belived the meaning to be something like "yes of course" or "I agree" or "OK" or something like that. Anyway thanks again for helping me.

Regards Thomas

Well if you take each word separately, kak means how and da means yes.

Hello Mariboulg

Thank you for your reply. Now things are looking more interesting!

Is it possible that kak da could be understod as something like "yes but how" ?

Like if someone is prepared to agree to something but still is not really sure he knows what it is he agrees to.

Regards Thomas

Yes ! but it would go like this

kak eto ... ? da ? kak eto tak ? da ?
like how is that ...(and maybe the person explains you how he understood and then asks the question "yes ?"

or
kak?(question) vot tak ?(answer)
meaning
how? like that !

Kak, can be used in various ways and can mean slightly different things depending how it is used in the phrase in some ways so …
like
kak vi dobriy meaning you are so kind

so ...
