Try this: http://www.lib.ru/NEWPROZA/SIDORENKO/ (both books), this: http://www.lib.ru/WIZBOR/elbrus.txt, and this:
http://www.lib.ru/MEMUARY/BRUMEL/valerij_brumel.txt lib.ru has very many other good books. I don't know if it is possible to get printed copies, but if you have access to somebody's printer, you can make your own copies. |

A few really good Russian books which have been translated are listed at http://www.readliterature.com/russian.htm
I recently read a decent American book called "The Gates of Fire" - it's a new version of the story about 300 Spartans. |

Also, I just realized you will enjoy a lot Arkadi Gaidar. I know, as a person he maybe wasn't very good (I've heard he was a colonel at 16 during the civil war, and a brutal one) and his books are considered propaganda, but every one decides for himself. BTW, if you search the web, you can find "Timur and His Squad" (used to be the cult book of Russian teens) for only $10.
