As a first-time poster and an American, I am not at all familiar with Russian directors or, quite frankly, many Russian movies. I must apologize for my ignorance on this matter. I do admire the works of Sergi Eisenstien (I hope I spelled his name correctly). His vision and boldness in "The Poltemkin" and "Alexander Nevsky" and also "Ivan the Terrible' leave me with views that I can't get out of my mind. Perhaps you can elighten me on Russian cinema and suggest films I might see? I enjoy great spectacles, comedy and a good detective movie.

Another classic, - Vertov's "Man With A Movie Camera"...was quite revolutionary in its day, early 20th century. Has really authentic footage of post-revolution Russia and the new vision.

Also "Solaris" by Tarkovsky a must-see.

Djingodjango, all of the movies, I mentioned in the begining of the thread, are very good and have english subtitles. So head over to my web site and check them out.

Some of my most favorite Russian animated features
came out on DVD recently:
Àëåíüêèé Öâåòî÷åê / Pink Flower
Òàéíà òðåòüåé ïëàíåòû / Secret of the Third Planet
Last one is a Sci-Fi movie.

Also I have been updating my actor pages, had to fix a lot of outdated links.

that are available in America, like the one I already have for 2003.

All Tarkovsky's films are a 'must see' My favourite will always be 'The Stalker' though I do love Solaris.
