Actually I thinks more of a shame for Americans,
because lets face it a lot of american people
are very clueless about history and outside world.
The movie I suggest you watch is "War"

Yes, that "War" film

Also here are a few others with similar impact:
Кавказский пленник / Prisoner of the Mountains
Летят журавли / The Cranes are Flying
Баллада о солдате / Ballad of a Soldier
Холодное лето пятьдесят третьего... / Cold Summer of 1953

I have not seen Холодное лето пятьдесят третьего, but I have the others, and I think they are great films. I think Баллада is one of the best black and white films describing the human cost of war ever made.

I enjoyed Кавказский пленник, but it's interesting that some friends on both sides of that issue consider the film to be propaganda for the other side. I thought it was much more than that.

Иди и смотри is another powerful war movie that attempts to put the real horror of war on screen.

Balamut,

I hope you are not serious. There are a number of moderators here, and each of us has our own view of Russia and the world. Don't skip town because you and Rain clash. Think about it before you take that step. Since you started posting again, you got involved in a variety of forums, and agree with you or not, more than a few members enjoy trading barbs, and discussing issues with you. So do I.

Rain moderates some red hot forums, and he has armor plated convictions about Chechnya and Islam. Armor plated and bullet proof doesn't mean right. Rain and I are at odds much of the time, and I'll occasionally add my two cents worth if I feel there might be a chance of making a point. Likewise, I won't hesitate to agree with Rain when a post goes that way.

In any case, I think he is sincere, and I learn quite a bit from reading the forums he moderates. Not just from what he writes there, but from the entire discussion. A good point made by anyone is just that, and is clear to the many people who read the forums here without jumping in with their two cents. You can win an argument here without the other guy giving you credit.

Anyway, I think that if you guys can keep tempers in check when you butt heads on an issue, we will all benefit from the dicussion, as I really don't think Rain is interested in using his position here to silence your voice. It can be tough with issues near and dear, but try to keep it civil.

No matter what though, your opinion, (even when we disagree) is both welcome and important in many other forums on the board. I really hope that you and Rain can sort things out and carry on, but don't forget the rest of us here.
