Strange movie. Poses a few good questions, but overall its just depressing, without any substance. Requiem For A Dream at least channelled all that negativity into a good subject matter, giving some relief, but in this film the director just bottles up all this negativity throughout the film and just leaves the lid closed in the end.

I feel like I need a breather of fresh air now...

I loved that movie. Benidicto Del Toro stold the show. It was a powerful movie that nearly brought me to tears (but being a big strong man I do not cry).

Seeing Naomi Watt's bare hooters was also a plus.

The show stealer was definitely Naomi Watts! That was some of the best acting I have seen in a long time. Rain, that movie and Requiem For A Dream are two of the darkest movies around.

Did anyone else find it hard to get into the groove at first? It jumped around so much, I kept asking what the heck was going on. I finally figured it out and just held on for the ride.

I really don't like movies like those. I'm seeing "Dodge Ball" tomorrow.

' Reqium...' was far too scattered. I don't mind a good drug movie now and again, but I do hate when the filmmakers make us try and think too hard too bask in the gloriosness that is their vision, I have alot of friends in the filmmaking biz so I know it takes a gangload of money to produce a film; asking the consumer to pay more just to understand it is a gross violation of morality

Best drug movie was Traffic. Best ! Benicio could make me switch my favorite flavors to the non-anglo breed.

Speaking of Russian movies, which we were not but it is a Russian forum hello, I encourage anyone to get " The Cuckoo ".

A story brilliantly done about the meeting of a Russian, a Laplander and a Finn shortly before the end of WW2.

Neither spoke any language aside from their own, and watching this well-choreographed dialogue betwixt three strangers was a treat, and hilarious, I may add.

I found it on Netflix, though I believe it's in your local video store.

Athena, "The Cuckoo" was an awesome movie!!! I loved it.

You have good taste in movies, because I believe that "Traffic" should be required viewing in American high schools. "Traffic" is a great flick. Have you seen "Drugstore Cowboys"? It's an oldie but goodie.

And if multicultural war movies ring your bell, rent "No Man's Land". It is about a Serb and a Croat who get trapped in a fox hole between the lines. Excellent!

Oy! Gus Van Sant-- the guy is probably a genius, but he doesn't fare so well with the ADD mind, I could re-shingle the rooves of my entire block in the time it takes him to wrap up a scene.

My favorite RU movie is Luna Park. Andreii is a phenomenol hottie but aside from my hormones, it's just a damn good story. It brings home the issue of single parents and the aftermath of such, plus it has the added benefit of being a low-budget flick, and that means that creativity has to take the place of hype, IMO.

Funny you mention required high school viewing. My sophomore year ( 1982 ) our spacey English teacher played " Bad Boys ", the Sean Penn juvie flick, every Friday. California is so wierd.
