"Russian Ark"
This is the first Russian film I've ever seen. It's not the most exciting movie I've ever seen, but it sure is interesting. The Winter Palace is awesome. The scene at the beginning when it seems like a group of young people sneaking into the new hot-spot in town... Catherine so demanding and certain, yet so human... the collection of art from western Europe... the mochery yielding to respect yielding to awe... the apex of aristocracy... the division... the question.
My favorite part is when the marquis asks the narrator what kind of government Russia has now; the narrator says "I don't know."

pretty good film - very unusual, daring and highly coloured i think. Sokurov's attempt altering movie theater is rather successful!

The amazing thing about that movie was the fact that it was shot in one continuous take. It is moviemaking history.
