work in moscow
You can teach either italian or english. I know for a fact that http://www.languagelink.ru has italian classes because i can read the russian version of the site and see it there. when i saw your post i went back and checked again including the english version and i did not see anything about that in the english version which makes sense because english speakers would need that info in russia about italian. however, i saw again that they teach italian there.
so teach italian at language link. one thing i will tell you having taught english in moscow, it is important for you to actually be in moscow for them to pay attention to you. but once you are there your bargaining position is pretty good. i last taught for $20 per hour. but it was at a combined russian/american law school project. you should be able to get something for $15 or so. i can help you with accomodation if you want. i offer cheap apartments and really pretty nice apartment in moscow. i can help you get something long term for a budget also, i mean really cheap and i won't take a commission or anything. check out my website at http://www.apartmentinmoscow.com best of luck robert |

Don't forget to tell him that he needs the right kind of visa, and that he really should get the job in advance of getting the paperwork handled. He can work around it in many situations, but if he want's to live in Moscow without extra worry, and earn the best wage, he should do it right.

VISA: GET IT RIGHT
Voyager:
good point on the visa. Maso, you can go more than one way on the visa situation but you should think it out ahead of time. One easy but more pricey option is to purchase a "Business Visa" you don't have to be a business man/woman exactly, but it WILL allow you to teach english until it's expiration. if you read the most recent visa regulations, they made a very nice exception for English teachers: YOU DONT NEED A FORMAL WORK PERMIT! my most recent business visa cost me $380 US dollars through my travel agent. it lasts six months and i can teach english on it. i can also teach private english lessons on it. registration: this is a new and more strict point that you NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO. with a business visa of the sort i described above, you need to get your landlord to REGISTER YOUR VISA after you rent your apartment from her/him. members of the http://www.expat.ru site recomend paying her/him an extra say $25-50 US to get this done right. you will also have to get an AIDS test for a business visa over 3 months. (again "business" is a loose term and it is designed to give you more options than a tourist visa). you could also get a business visa for 3 months but it will still probably cost you $250US. if you have any questions post again and i will either explain what I know or refer to someone else, or voyager may chime in and help you in the right direction. plan it right. don't show up with a 30 day tourist visa. either get the school to issue the visa first or come on a visa that will not burden a school at the onset(start) of employing you as a language teacher. best of luck, ciao robert |
