Hello!
I am looking for someone from New Mexico. I am planning to move to Albuquerque from NY, and I'd appreciate any first-hand info about it. You cannot find much about it on the Web, except that crime situation is pretty bad. Is than really so? I am Russian, BTW. Any Russians in New Mexico? |

Albuquerque, N.M.

Hi, my name is Calvin Payne and I have lived in Albuquerque and there are no more crime than any other, just take care and observe all that is going around you and you will be fine, most all of the people there are real friendly and will help if you ask. The weather is real nice and it has snow but mostly from January to March, before then it is real worm. The senery is gordgus and they have a few cultures like Spanish, American Indians and I am sure there are some Russians there. My daughter lives in Los Lunas, just south of Albuquerque and I go over there and visit them, Also my wife to be from Perm Russia will arive here soon and we will go and visit my daughter and she will know no Russia here, so may be when she gets here we may call amd visit you also, right now I live in Phoenix, Arizona. Albuquerque has a great colledge also and there are a lot of things to do, They also have a tram that climbs high up in the mountains and you can see all over the valley of Albuquerque, Los Lunas, Corralles, and Bernalillo. It does get cold there in the winter but only for about 4 months if that, but nothing like Perm Russia. Good luck and enjoy New Mexico, I was born in Tulorosa, New Mexico. |

About Albuquerque and a question...
I agree, Albuquerque is as safe as any other place. There are some cultural things that I find irritating here. As I have been around the world, I seem to believe there are better places. All in all it is not that bad, though. I grew up in Eunice, about 350 miles south of Albuquerque.
My question is, is there a group for Russian Americans in Albuquerque? I am also moving to marriage of a wonderful Samaran woman. I would like to know if anyone has heard of a russian-american club or something of the sort in Albuquerque? Johnny |

I enjoyed the culture very much
when I lived there...It is predominately native american with the navaho being many. Tradition is very much a part of life and they like to share it with you if they enjoy your company. They run on "indian time"..there doesn't seem to be a priority with clocks. The summary that explains a lot of the perspectives I encountered there..was.."Eat when you find hunger, sleep when you are tired, laugh when you are happy, cry when you are sad" If you see somebody asleep on the grass, they are probably not dead, they just enjoyed the processed barley too long...there is much adventure, reprieve, discovery and surprise in the land of the sandias.
In answer to your question about Russian groups..if you go to S.I.P.I. (southwestern Indian polytechnic institute)in the registration office and ask them, they will probably be able to suggest somewhere for you to enjoy an exchange. |

Ahhh, thank you very much. My intent is to also attend UNM again, learn a little Russian and such. I am sure between SIPI and UNM, there will be an outlet. Sometimes, it takes a fresh outlook to see the obvious. Thanks again!
It is funny to get an outside perspective, and pleasantly refreshing. I find my view much different, mostly because of my own background, which colors my glasses, so to speak. I do find Albuquerque enjoyable, just that most of my interests don't coincide with those of my neighbors. Johnny |
