Where exactly is your friend going in Russia? major cities already have many black students and residents and they are usually treated with respect.. but there have been some instances of gangs attacking foreign men who are with Russian women.

No Russians are not racist. They even (usually) like Americans. Black people are like celebreties. If your friend can sing, tell her to stsrt a band. She will be famous.

I had a few Russian g/friends while I was there. Nobody treated me differently then normal. It is amazing how much they can can handle. I saw alot in the Baltics with ugly men fetching beautiful women and paying. It made me sich and wanting to punch theml, but the locals explained to me that if the girl is like that, then that is her choice. It is really crazy!

I never thought it was easier for me because I was from the West, but I suppose some guys thought that was the case. All I got was good feelings, maybe some jealousy from a pretty biy or two and the rough guys I met just wanted to see who could drink the most.

Having said that, keep your eyes to yourself and smile alot!

I think it would be a hardshift living as a coulored person in Russia, exept Moscow. Even there it is danberous. Last summer they had an uprise in battles against couloured persons. This even made inquiering the Embassys of those countries whos citiziens (mostly students) were concerned. I would go there as a couloured person.
