Hi!
When I was in Russia last time, I asked one of my students what type of Russian music she liked. She recommended Zyemfira to me. I bought one of their early CDs. I haven't listened to it a lot, but was wondering what others opinions on thier music are. (So far I think I like them.) Does anyone know where I could pin down a set of their lyrics? My Russian ain't so great that I can follow it all as is. :-)
Thanks for your help and comments!

Thumbs up

Zemfira is a great band... Her style is quite similar to what we're used to in North America, yet the lyrics and everything else is Russian. She's absolutely huge over there.

There's a great story in English about her located at the following address: http://www.salon.com/ent/music/featu...02/29/zemfira/

Lyrics to Zemfira songs are all over the internet. Here's a site or two: http://www.midi.ru/lyrics/Zemfira.htm
Lyrics to some of her cooler songs are there... check out Sinoptik and Arivederchi.

This site has the same Zemfira songs, but you can use the A to Ya at the top to find lyrics for other Russian songs: http://www.songs.ru:8101/lyrics/z/zemphira/index.shtml

I hope this helped! Let me know if you need anything else... I find it's easier to remember vocabulary when listening to songs than just by looking at a page of words.

another site with Zemfira lyrics (you will need a browser capable of reading cyrillic, encoded in WIN/CP-1251) is:
http://rmp.ru/

this HUGE site also has MP3's of lots of Zemfira, and almost all contemporary Russian artists. The downloads can be very buggy during peak times though. I cut-pasted "Pochemu?" below - if you can read that, you should be able to read this site!

Dr W.
(not really a Zemfira fan myself, I'm too old for all that stuff! But this site also has Kino, BG, NP, Chizh, Brigada-S, Masha i Medvedi, Mumii Troll, ... everything you wanted... :-)

Dave & Dr. W - Спасибо!
Dr. W - Actually, for whatever reason, I could NOT read the cyrillic that you posted on this page, but I COULD read the cyrillic on the web page that you referred me to! So, if anyone else wants to check it out, your computer may be able to "read" the cite regardless if the words for "pochemu" turned out gobbally-gook above.

Thanks for your help Dave and Dr. W!

I'd also like to thank Dr_Woland for giving the address to that site... it's far better than anything I've found yet!

If anybody else finds some more stuff like this, keep 'em coming!
