has anyone here ever seen or heard him in a normal, non-professional capacity?

he gives very intelligent interviews, calls his mom, and any other thing a normal person would do. he is not a demon from hell nor did he crawl from the sewers. he is a man who sings songs. if you don't like the songs, fine. if you don't like the way he dresses and get in a fuss about it, you are responding exactly how he and his marketing buddies want you to. he makes money by being wierd. he feeds off the angst of teenagers everywhere. this is no new "scam." every pop artist everywhere operates off this assumption to make money. britney spears, nsync, nine inch nails, EVERYONE.

just remember, he is a man who sings songs. what is so intrusive and evil about that?

Although Mr.Manson might suggest differently, i largely agree with you. However i would like to point out that he writes songs and music as well so he is more talented than the rest of the pop market you mention (apart from Mr.Reznor).

he is a talented musician. he would not be where is is today if he was not. trent reznor is also talented. but i see them tapping the feelings of angst, anger, and insecurity in teenagers today. if one of the aforementioned or otherwise artists would go through some sort of emotional evolution they might not be able to sell records. in the case of manson, if he were to write songs concerning the resolution of insecure feelings or dissipation of anger, he wouldn't have such a profitable market. if trent reznor found some sort of reconciliation with organized religion and wrote it into his songs, the regular nin demographic would fall apart.

in short, marylin manson and trent reznor perpetuate the angsty feelings in their songs to maintain their audience and following.

Mastodon,

Again i do not disagree with you, but i must point out that i was only outlining the difference of musicianship between Mr.Manson and Mr.Reznor and the N-sync and Britney Spears' of this world. However, i might suggest that Reznor and Manson genuinly share the angsty feelings that their followers share, although perhaps to a different degree.
