Butter, we have more than Russian husbands in common. My background (well one of them, among others) is Art History, museum/gallery management. My husband and I would like to start a business also. We actually *do* have a little business but don't do much with it, just so busy with other stuff.

What we have found out so far is that Americans are *real* interested in Matrioshka, Khokhloma and laquer boxes. Not much else, however, I still encourage you to help these unknown Russian artists and craftsmen.

I am a big fan of Russian Art, particularly Repin and others from his era. I also love Yuri Gorbachev's work. Have you ever seen any of it? If you do a websearch you'll find lots. He's pretty amazing, at least I think so.

You are mine...mine...mine..alllll mine...!!!!

OMG!! The conincidences are are unbelievable! Absolutely bless your little heart...what city do you live in ? If you are near Los Angeles, then the dinner is on us.

Grab your huz and meet up with the Lat and I. The boys can go smoke cigars while we'll sneak off and you can enlighten me further into the world of Russian art, gallery-ownership and the like.......

What a blessing you are.

I agree. The Matrioshka are very nice, I like the mother, father and kids sets.

I have seen Respin's work; Sophia, Ivan the terrible and his son (total despair) and Mussgorsky. I didn't know the artists name. Thank you.

Yuri Gorbachev; I like this one, but it's out of my range. Sale price about $7,000

I found a shipping company who set me a fair price
( Florida to California ), now I only need to someone to pack up the goods properly.

INSURANCE or over-insure.

I have a B/S in accounting, but I am in Michigan. Touch base with a California CPA, he/she can help set up most legal matters in your state.
Also, contact Visa/MC and get a schedule of fees. Take a look at Paypal for net payments (their fees).

Think about silver and gold coins, I always thought of them as art.

See this site:

Holler if you need me (here or at home). Good Luck!

Oh yeah, those seasonal items. I love handmade Christmas ornaments.

Hi Butterfield and John, so nice to find some Russian art lovers.
Thank you for your wonderful posts.
My favorite Repin is the Cossacks Writing a Letter to the Sultan. This is my husband's favorite too, such a hilarious story behind it.
Have either of you read the original letter the painting is based upon?
Gotta love those Cossacks

Would LOVE to join you guys for dinner, and Sergei would really enjoy that too, but alas we are on the opposite coast from you
But you never know maybe the wind will blow either way or perhaps meet in the middle

Butterfield, please consider emailing me rather than posting here. Ditto to you John, if you'd like to talk more about Russian art and such. I love the Christmas ornaments too!! Some of my favorites!

If my reasons for wanting to communicate some other way are not already obvious I will be happy to explain later.
Thank you both again,
Fantushinka

Fantushinka....

Lord repair my hyperactive brain....

I checked my Hotmail yesterday and I saw 18 messages from this site so I automatically clicked all into the 'delete' file..but oh whoops! As they were going away I spied a personal message from Fantushinka !

Pozna!

Silly over-caffeinated girl, I am

I will send you an email. I just wanted to explain the delay.

The Lat and I love travel. Being the little Baltic snowman that he is, though, we try to keep him out of extreme temps.
God that looks so funny as I read my post But it is true. The poor guy just melts in anything over 70 degrees.

Mozhit biit kagda pagoda v vostok USA ne ochen zharke, mwi budim pozishan'ye..?

I have been up to my ears in work lately. By the time I get home I am interested only in shower and bed. So please allow me a bit of time to respond to all the goodies you have presented me with..

Spokwoiny Noche..

I have three original oils from a fairly well-known chick painter from Petersburg. One of 'em is framed. There in a storage thingy right now. You sell, you'll get a nice cut outta me. They were moderatly priced, $700-1200 each. She's been displayed in NY and Europe etc...

Damn right I did her.
