You know that experience - its a great tune, but your brain is turning itself inside out at the sheer appallingness of the lyrics.

Prime example - Public enemy: Bring the noise.

Awesome percussive/rhythmic sonic assault and faultless vocal delivery, marred somewhat by the actual words being delivered :

"Farrakhans a prophet and I think you ought to listen to
What he can say to you
What you ought to do is follow for now..."

Kinda spoils it huh? A bit like eating ice cream with a chocolate swastika all the way through it...

Shaft,

Do remember a movie called "I'm gonna git you sucka" by Keenan Ivory Wayans? There was character in a jail cell called "Farrakhanvict", I think most people can see thru this sh!t. But, yes lyrics can ruin a song. I liked "Stinkfist" by Tool until I found out the name of the song and meaning of the lyrics.

I haven't seen the film John, but I will look out for it. Is it in a similar vein to CB4 by any chance? Sounds like it might be striking a similar note there.

"Stinkfist"?

I sense problems already just from the title...lol

I would guess it is sillier. Wayans has been known to attack everyone and everything with equal gusto. Maybe funnier than "Don't be a Menace to South Central...". I have not seen CB4.
Also, try "Hollywood Shuffle" by Robert Townsend.
Stinkfist, not my cup of tea.

Ty for the recommendations - CB4 - a parody of, I guess, "Niggaz With Attitude" and other 'gangsta' rap bands...instead of "Straight Outta Compton" they sing "Straight Outta Lowcash". At one point the band splits up to pursue individual careers; one member discovers his roots and becomes a Professor Gryff style black radicalist :

"I'm black y'all, and I'm black y'all, and I'm black y'all, and I'm black y'all...blackety blackety blickety blickety black - BLACK"...etc...

Remember Homey D. Clown from "In Living Color"?

The way I feel about gangs and the gangsta rap is the same as when one of the kids (Tommy Davidson) said he was going to join a gang. Homey told him the only thing he'd get out of a damn gang was this, he smacked him with a clown sock and called him stupid.

Here's Homey.

I'm sure it isn't just confined to black based music but rap /hip hop does seem to be home to all manner of bullsh1t.

Btw I recommend the notably un-pc Dr Alimantado as an antidote to Bob Marley:

Gimme Mi Gun

"...de man cyaan say dat iya....ooh
wha` da man mean i cyaan say dat...den wha` the police and soldier deh deh fa...den wha uno
gunman back mi up roun` de corner, a`no police an soldier no deh deh...wha i go use fe defen`
i'self....eh?! Gimme mi gun say me wa` mi gun!...gimme mi gun say me wa` mi gun!..."
