I seem to have had another "revelation," as one might call it. Aside from my brand-spankin' new set of beliefs, I seemed to have developed an affinity towards Russian Classical music...

And what's wrong with that?
![]() Go classical! ![]() (Go Russian, too.) p.s. Dr W, if you read this, or anyone else who knows, completely OFF the subject, what is it that I need to install to be able to read the cyrillic on this board, again? I'm begining to feel left out! I've installed many, I know how to use them, I just haven't installed this one yet... |

Way to go!!!!
Oh! I have loved Russian classical music since I was 2. Might I recommend my favourites? Firstly, my MOST favourite Russian composer is Sergei Rachmaninov. Oh, I find his music speaks to me through the soul. It sounds flaky, but so true. I recommend his piano concerto #2 in c- (minor) and his most stunning compilation of the liturgical vespers. I listen to this CD every night (religiously) and I NEVER get bored of it. It is the most incredible, stirring music I have ever heard...haunting. Of course, we all know Tchaikovsky's 1812 overture, but if you can find it, I recommend the "Solenelle" version of the 1812 overture. I think Deutsche Grammaphone has this compilation. It's all the fire and glory of the 1812 Overture, except it has the added attraction of the liturgical chant at the beginning of the first movement. Also, let's not forget Moussorgsky and his infamous "Night on Bald Mountain". I love this piece from my childhood of watching Fantasia. I will never forget the impact this piece of music and the cartoon had on me at this age. Just excellent!! As there is just too much great Russian classical music to list, I also suggest works by Stravinsky, Glinka, and Shostokovich. And, there are many others, it depends on your taste in classical music. Happy listening, and I'm open for discussions on this topic anytime!! ![]() Amy PS: Curious! I had this same problem earlier. I went to the Microsoft Windows Update website and downloaded the encoding under the "Languages" section. The one I downloaded said "Russian". Then, I went into my startup menu and went to "settings" then "control panel". Select "Internet Options" and then click on the language button. Click on "add" from there and select "Cyrillic (Windows)". Then click ok. Then, go online and click on "view" on the toolbar. Under view, select "encoding" and go to "more". There, you can select the encoding of Cyrillic again, and it should update your computer. I hope I got that right, but that's how it worked for me ![]() |

A beautiful description of how to russify your browser there from Amy :-)
If there are any NetScape users, Mac users or other endangered species who are trying to puzzle it out, drop me a line in this thread, ok? Dr W. |
