I had an intense debate about this with my friend.

I say the majority will because the history of music goes back to Africa. When colonials brought african slaves to the America, those slaves preserved much of African culture (They are very well knowned for being great historians and felt it was important to preserve things). So they preserved their culture and managed to do so until they were given more rights. When they were given the right to have their own churches or participate in church, they mixed their African Rythm with some old Christian Folk Tunes and Gospel emerged. From Gospel, Jazz and swing emerged. From Jazz and Swing, Rock and Roll and R&B emerged. From Rock and Roll came 80's Disco/Pop. From 80's Disco/Pop came Techno. But from R&B, Jazz and Traditional African Rythm, came Rap. Throughout the evolution of music, African rythm has been able to survive the test of time. African Rythm can be found in modern rap.

So I say that yes, an African 100 years ago will most likely like modern rap.

And if you are worried about the lyrics and profanity or whatever, then I dont think they would care because they don't know its profanity. They just know it is some guy speaking in their rythm (Because that is what rap is).

My friend however says tehy wouldnt like it because in order to like something it requires time. That it music evolved to much for Africans 100 years ago to like modern rap.

What do you think?
